I attended (waited outside) the British Embassy last week while my Thai girlfriend went in to apply for a UK visitor visa. She received a brief interview, and then was given an appointment for 10 days time to come back.

Is this normal? I was under the impression that the decisiion was made on the day.

Any advice / view appreciated.

The embassy say that they strive to make a decision to grant/refuse the visa on the day of application. However, it is possible that either they weren't in a position to do so on the day in question, or your g/f has been required to produce further evidence.
