Marry In Bangkok Or Not?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A question for a friend of mine:

He’s been with his girl friend for about 4 years or so now and they’ve decided to get married. She’s from Loei.

He understand that he can take his divorce paperwork to the UK embassy for the freedom to marry bit, do the official translation and get stamped at the ministry of foreign affairs (I know all this to be true). Now the bit we disagree on.

He believes they can then marry in Bangkok. I believe he needs to go back to Loei to her local Amphur.

Could someone shed a little light please? Don’t care if I’m right or wrong and could save my mate some time.

Cheers

Paul

The legal marriage registration can be done at any district office in Thailand on any working day between 8am and 3pm.

Any Amphur will do.

Thanks for that LovelyCutie. I'll pass the information on to my mate.

Cheers

Paul

Just to add my 10 Baht's worth and back up the above statements, having got the "freedom-to-marry" stuff all done at the UK Embassy, I just popped down to my local Amphur Office (Kanchanaburi) and about 20 mins later I was a married man...

..total cost at the office - 30 Baht...!!!
