Heres a good question.

The wifes Thai with an expired passport(already been extended).

She will need to get a new passport from London(read a few posts here and have found out that she has to go in person).

The "leave to stay in the uk stamp" will be in the old passport so rather that pay a vast amount of money she is planning to take the old passport to accompany the new one.

We will be moving to Thailand this year and she will be using her Thai passport to enter Thailand (she now does not have any Visa problems),I will be applying for a year Visa.

The question is:

What if my wife wants to visit friends in the UK.

She will have an English Passport with no entry stamp.Could be a major problem leaving Thailand this way.

She will also have a Thai Passport with no "leave to remain in the UK stamp".

Will she be OK simply showing her old passport or will she need to visit the Embassy in Bangkok and pay for a new stamp?

Some people with both UK and Thai passports use the following method when traveling:

UK to Thailand.

When checking in, show Thai passport. This reassures the airline that you can enter Thailand without restriction.

There is no passport control at present when leaving the UK, so no need to show either passport.

On entering Thailand, show Thai passport at Immigration.

Thailand to UK.

When checking in, show both passports. This reassures the airline that not only are you in Thailand legally, but also that you can enter the UK without restriction.

At Thai passport control, show Thai passport, as this will have the entry stamp in it.

At UK immigration, show British passport.

Alternatively, if she only wants to use one passport, she can also have a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode affixed in her Thai Passport. May cost less in the UK.

Because of he security issues passports are now being inspected on departure at Heathrow.

Couple of weeks ago K wife went through and showed her Thai PP on leaving (tic in her Thai name) and since she has big RED stamp R.O.B in it... no problem.

On arrival back in London as said above she just waves U.K./E.U. PP....still no stamps/visas in it. ...but MPrai :o

Seem to remember that ROB stamp cost us £20...(thanks again Scouse)

Are you sure the R.O.A stamp is only £20?

I read on another forum yesterday that the charge in London is £350 by post or £500 in person...

£20 seems like a bargin.
