Hello

The last 2 Years, i need it

Chris

Money can buy a lot of things? will it include a Medical certificate too? do any of you know that where i can get a medical certificate which the Labour Department will accept under the new rules of syphilis test...?

Medical exam is part of the WP extension.

@Mario2008 yes you are right...but can we get a certificate from someone by paying "tea Money" ?

You might find a clinic that would sign off on the physical without getting any blood drawn. Not exactly tea money just an unethical doctor.

Not sure why you want to go that route when it costs around 200 Baht or less with the blood test required for syphilis at a hospital. And yes, I've been required to supply a medical certificate and since last year must include the syphilis test.

i am afraid i may get it +? and then my WP will be rejected. if so i have to roll back all the investment which i did for last 4 years...scary, truely

As long as the Doctor signs it and it is the correct form they would accept it.

I don't think you would pay very much for a proper physical at a government hospital since you are paying social security.

Last year i got such a certificate from a clinic in Ram2 and it was rejected. asked me to go to a hospital and i went Phayathai 1. i had the test and it was all negative..so there is a possibility of getting it rejected too? Maybe in that it was nothing about syphilis?

isnt this a big headache each year to extend WP? can we get something longer like Driver License.. first 1 year and then 5 years? hehe..

Seriously can i get my WP extended for more than 1 year?

A few years ago they started allowing 2 year work permits/renewals which meant it was no longer tied to your annual visa extensions. Of course you either need a contract for at least two years or perhaps a business.

For how long will your work permit be valid?

Under the former Working of Aliens Act of 1971 the validity of work permits was limited up to 1 year. Furthermore the validity of the work permit was tied to the visa period. Under the new act the work permit may be valid up to two years and the validity of your work permit will no longer be tied to the duration of your visa. If you do not have a one year visa you will not need to renew your work permit after every visa run as before. But you will still need to have a valid visa to stay in Thailand

Work permits may be issued for up to two years (or in the case of work permits issued in connection with the Law Governing Investment Promotion or other similar laws, for the period of time the alien is permitted to work under such laws). Work permits may be renewed for additional two year periods, but the period of time an alien is permitted to work is not to exceed four consecutive years unless otherwise permitted by the Council of Ministers. Work permits have no effect on the duration of stay permitted under the immigration laws.

i think i got your point and understood the situation.. this time will try for 2 years...lets see how it goes.

I have never had a medical for a work permit.

I have never had a medical for a work permit.

Many years ago it was required, then several years ago it was not asked for. However, two years ago they started requiring it again and last year the basic certificate was refused and required a proper one. This is my experience from 20 years of WP renewals.

//edit - of course different regional offices, different policies but the last I've seen from members it is now pretty wide spread requirement.

Look at the work permit renewal form: http://wp.doe.go.th/...rm/form_tt5.pdf

It clearly says a medical is required.

anyways..whatever the case of medical required or not required are they going to verify the medical certificates? what if someone change the date of the previous year certificate?

That will have very serious consequences when found out, you could expect some jail time and blacklisting!

It will certianly not be treated the same as an overstay, but as a serious criminal act.

Especially, since the actual "medical" is normally something like this:

"What's your name? Have you paid the fee... Good."

You would wonder who suddenly decided that Syphilis was something that the Labour Dept should be concerned about.

The One Stop Centre in Chamchuri first asked me 2 years ago for a medical certificate. I went to a clinic on Rama IV to get a cheapie (you walk in and you get one) but this wasn't accepted because of the Syphillis requirement. Was sent away to do the test. Went to a local hospital. The first test came back positive so had to do the alternative 24 hour test which came back negative. Cost a fair amount in terms of time and money. This year I was consulting a Doctor for another reason and asked about the test, not wanting to go through the false positive again and was told that Doctors can use visual examination. Apparently, later stages of Syphillis manifest themselves visually. So she signed the certificate on that basis.

If you have an established medical relationship with a Doctor or make the request at a reputable clinic, you might be able to avoid the blood test assuming that what my Doctor told me was accurate.

The current requirement is blood test - the old requirement was third stage where a visual exam could be used. Your doctor was acting on the old medical requirements form.
