I am interested to know if anybody else has had their car insurance declined as a result of a flood related claim this year. I must point out however, they were exceptionally good with the claim and did not argue over any aspect, even though the cost was substantial. That's why I'm surprised to have been advised of their current stance.

Alternative companies are asking premiums of 45% more than last years premium.

It's no big deal I guess, just a little irritating and time wasting.

Shop around for another insurance company.

That's how I know that alternative companies want a 45% increase..............

What car is it ? and how much is the normal vs 45% increased quotes ?

if your insurance is normal about 10 k baht then its not a big issue.

Could the increased premium be a result of a loss of no claims bonus ?

It's curious that the other insurance companies know of the flood damage to your car.....

35,000 increased to just over 51,000. As previously mentioned, it is no big deal.

I would have accepted an increased premium due to loss of no claims bonus, rather than denial of renewal.

I certainly don't wish to sound obnoxious, but I'm not too interested in getting into a debate about it and will pay the new premium if I don't find a suitable alternative after searching some more.

I do agree with you that it is curious the other companies know. It seems they must have a data base with free access to each others claims.

My post was purely asking if anyone else had experienced anything similar out of interest.

I'm guessing that many insurance companies will be declining to renew all sorts of insurances for people living in areas likely to flood.

Yes, wouldn't surprise me. Looks like the insurance companies don't trust the efforts of the government to prevent new floodings, and are not willing to pay for them anymore.

I've got a couple of new cars arriving over the next week or two and will be most interested to see if there are any exclusions. Interestingly enough one of them is going to be insured with the same Company that has just declined my renewal.

Obviously with more cars arriving , you wont be needing 2 WILDTRAKS ;)

The reason other insurance companies know about your claim is the fact they have a central register.....so my GF's brother tells me.

You are quite correct and I have just been made aware of this by the new insurer of this car. My premium with the new Company is 15,000 baht more than last year as a result of loss of no claims bonus obviously. I don't mind this, but am still at a loss as to why they decided to decline renewal given my previous history of no claims. Because I had a claim I did expect an increase in premium, not denial of renewal. Someone suggested to me it is because they are nervous of a similar claim happening in the future which I understand, except they have now insured more vehicles with me at the same address. I just find their reasoning unusual to say the least.

Anyway, it isn't important now as I do have new cover in place although I am surprised nobody else from this forum has responded with a similar situation given the number of flood damaged vehicles last year. Perhaps the real reason was the cost of repair which was very substantial.
