Foreign motorcyclist flees Thailand after hit-and-run in Phuket - video
In a country where the " rules of the road " are virtually non-existant this shouldnt even be news worthy, but the fact its a foreigner makes it hits the headlines, while not condoning his actions ( which are 100 percent wrong ) it should be taken in context with the vast amounts of illegal driving offences commited by the thai population everyday that mostly go unreported -

65000 bhat extension
Bangkok bank in Jomtein does a good job supplying what is needed for extension using monthly deposit route. I'm not even sure what specifically to ask for, but the one teller does it right every year. -

Scottish Ministers Weigh Controversial Cat Ban and Curfew to Protect Wildlife
Quite ironic that the popularity of cats (and dogs) as domestic pets was based in part on their ability to control rodent pest populations like rats and mice. Bringing home a few sparrows and lizards was just seen as bycatch. Somehow that is not now seen as a relevant reason to keep them, mad. -

Road Safety in Thailand – a summary of Perceptions and Reality
I, and countless others here, have, in this and other posts, acknowledged that we already know why accidents happen here, and most of us already knew when we took our first drivers test as a teenager. Things haven't changed because it's still the same things. Driver inability to control a vehicle, which is incompetence, distractions, people talking or arguing in the vehicle, phone use, driving inebriated, driving tired, under age driving, not remembering the road safety rules, which are all on the driver first and foremost. Then there's the bad road conditions, which make it harder to control a vehicle, which a driver should be aware of and slow down. Bad weather, which also means the driver should slow down. Bad enforcement of laws already on the books, which is the police's fault, and which does contribute to more accidents because they aren't fining and jailing those who break the laws and only taking bribes or letting them pass uncontested. What you seem to be missing, to repeat, is that everyone here, I'm sure, already knows all about why accidents happen. We knew this when we took our first drivers test as teenagers. Another thing you do is think that personal observation means little, although it's done not only by me but everyone else that lives here, and driving over 2 million miles myself has you notice all types of errors and recklessness that drivers do. I, and others, notice that it happens here a lot more than we observed in our own countries. This isn't lies but data, as data is facts and statistics gathered by people and logged in. Some write things down and some remember them. The everyday person, the driver, especially those who do it long term, is just as valid a resource as others who take data. This again has nothing to do with being racist but just seeing how it is here. If this happened in Mexico, Iceland, Germany or any other country, people would notice it and comment. Thailand has a very bad reputation for accidents and especially deaths on their roads, and there are reasons for this, as has been noted by us, and you.Repeated observations of bad driving behavior is indeed a trend, and one that's only gotten worse over the years. That they do little about it will see it continue. \ \The main point is still. It'\s the DRIVER that's responsible for avoiding accidents, and they do this by following the laws that are ALREADY on the books. If they don't, you can't blame anyone besides them. That they don't get ticketed and fined you can blame on the police, which would ensure, maybe, better behavior in the future.
