Pool Competitions

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a good bar or pub that has good pool or fair

pool competitions.Used to be a regular player in Gullivers but takes forever

to get a game then normally get the house champ and thats it for another

half hour and another place in Sukhumvit soi 3 which lets just say wasn't very fair rolleyes.gif haha. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

there is a place in the basement of times square near bts asoke, across from robinison, cant remember the name but used to have competitions in the afternoons on weekends.

the place bkkjames is referring to used to be "ball in hand no.2", but now it is called Hustlers. Ive been in there once a while back and it has quality tables as ball in hand does, but im not sure about competitions.

If you want to play against other people, try New Wave on sukh soi 7. I would frequent that place years ago by myself as my friends weren't into pool as much as I was. They have about 7 or so tables of medium quality (i think 8ft, not 9s for sure), but the pockets are generous. You can put your name up on a couple boards and if its not peak times you will get called to play the previous winner of one of the tables fairly quickly. That is really the fun part of it, you may play one game against a japanese businessman, then against a freelancer girl, then a chang wearing tourist, nigerian....etc. its a motley crowd.

For more serious pool with top-quality tables and cues, check out the first ball in hand. It is near Annies massage, off of sukh 4, past nana plaza on the right. its on the 2nd floor.

As far as competition goes, there are lot of different leagues with many diff pubs and pool bars participating. the best way to go about joining a team would to become somewhat of a "regular" at a pool bar that is involved in a league, then, after some time, just ask the manager or whoever is running the place about the team and if they need some players. The leagues vary in level of competition, but most arent too serious and have players constantly coming and going, thus the chances of joining a pubs team is good as long as you are semi-decent :)

On Soi4 - always a playing partner available.

Day night bar - any afternoon of the week. A good spread of high standard expats, and some seriously quite good in-house Thai players, nice afternoon of pool and beer. Not too many tossers.

Hillary2 late evening. Original Hillary mid-evening and there have been a few more spring up in the past few months.
