England's qualifying group for Euro 2008 is:

ENGLAND

Croatia

Russia

Israel

Estonia

Macedonia

Andorra

Pretty tough I think! Croatia, Russia and Israel could all cause us problems, Andorra are the only real whipping boys. Our qualifying group for this year's world cup, and indeed our group in the world cup itself, are much easier.

If you can't beat those teams then there's something wrong!!

Far from tough - more like a dream draw. From a rankings perspective that's almost as good as it gets.

Bring on Guus!! :o

I think England got off easy AGAIN!! :o

Euro 2008: England handed lucky draw

England have been handed a favourable draw in their qualifying campaign for the 2008 European Championships in Switzerland and Austria.

The quarter-finalists at the last tournament will face Croatia, Russia, Israel, Estonia, Macedonia and Andorra in Group E.

England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson attended the draw in Montreux, but the Swede will not be in charge for the campaign after announcing he will leave his post following the World Cup this summer.

Croatia, tipped to make an impact at the World Cup this summer, and Russia will be England's biggest threat to a top-two finish - with no qualification play-off system in this tournament.

Israel impressed in World Cup qualification but managed to finish only third in their group - in which they were ahead of the Republic of Ireland - despite being level on points with Switzerland.

Macedonia surprised England during the last qualifying campaign, earning an away draw at St Mary's before David Beckham scored the winner in the return match in Skopje.

Of the home nations, Scotland received the toughest draw and Walter Smith's side will face Italy, France and Ukraine along with Lithuania, Georgia and the Faroe Islands.

The Scots were defeated 5-0 by former World and European champions France in Berti Vogts' first game in charge in March 2002.

But, under Andy Roxburgh, the team claimed a 2-0 win over the French in the qualifiers for the 1990 World Cup, although Les Bleus also scored a three-goal triumph over the Scots in the same group.

Smith's first game in charge of the team was in Milan last March where a creditable display in the 2-0 defeat marked an upturn in Scotland's fortunes.

Scotland almost claimed a famous win over the Italians in September in the World Cup qualifiers where the visitors needed a late equaliser at Hampden Park.

Newly-appointed Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton will face Wales in a mouth-watering clash in Group D. Both teams are considered outsiders to reach the finals as Germany and the Czech Republic are also in their group. The other Group D teams are Slovakia, Cyprus and San Marino.

Northern Ireland will meet Sweden, Spain, Denmark, Latvia, Iceland and Liechtenstein in Group F.

Well, not sure I agree with those "easy draw" quotes - although maybe I'm in the minority!

Croatia and Russia are both decent sides, and knowing our track record we can slip up against teams like those. Macedonia held us to a draw a few years ago in the Euro 2004 qualifiers and Israel came third behind France and the Swiss (but level on points with Switzerland), and above Ireland in this year's world cup qualifiers. Estonia and Andorra should be walkovers, but only Andorra are the kind of team that you can stick 5 or 6 past - and even then we often fail to rout teams when we should do, like only beating Lietchenstein 2-0 on two occasions recently.

We're definitely the best team in that group, but I still think there are a few tough ties in there...

Yeah, you could be right there. England and Croatia swapping places with France and Italy in group B would be even more favourable :o

As usual, the luck of the draw has been kind to England. You should qualify from this one.

The only dissapointing thing for the English supporters is that none of the away trips look too appealing for a weekend away.

Also Croatia's supposed to have amazing beaches, and Estonia's reported to be a good up and coming holiday destination. Never been to either, though, but that's what I've heard about them.

Tallinn, Estonia, is a nice little place. Nothing special but they've got their traditional "Old Thomas" liquer which they mix in all kinds of cocktails - it's a real treat. Weekend holiday place for Swedes.

Here's a joke about Russian football team - for the next Euro Championship Russia is drawn against San Marino, Andorra, Lichtenstien, Luxemburg, and Vatican. Only five teams qualify. Russia vows not to give up without a fight.
