Day Ride Suggestions (Bangkok)

I've searched for hours today looking for any maps for day rides out of Bangkok. I could only find one (link below) so wonder if any of you have routes that you enjoy on a quiet Sunday morning. Distances between 500 and 800 km would be perfect. You are welcome to suggest 2 day rides too & I'll put them in as well.

I ride with a few guys (they're all good) but we never seem to know anywhere other than Khao Yai. We've done Kanchanburi too but I couldn't retrace the steps on the map (I would admit we were lost!)

Any suggestions for some bendy stuff with short straights and we are in heaven. We're on sports bikes (900cc and up) so longer distances aren't a hassle provided there's a decent road at the end of it.

If you don't have the Google map route, tell me the roads (numbers), towns and other information & I'll try to work it into Google & update this post with a new map. If you know good runs through Kanchanburi let me know that too.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and keep it upright.

If your looking for a distance of 500-800 km, you can make it too chiang mai@ approx 740km

Maybe instead of Khao Yai, you can take the road that goes around Khao Yai that ends up going down the Korat Plateau? I actually prefer this over actually being inside Khao Yai.

The closest place with bends to BKK is Bang Saen but you might end up running over a monkey and isnt worth gong to for twisties though. Good little ride for lunch on the water though. Khao Som Mook is the monkey mountain (hill), there are monkeys everywhere.

edit: nevermind, that appears to be the same route.

CM would be a bit much - I meant round trip thumbsup.gif

Just be careful because around 10-20km into the 3481 there's a 100m patch of road with no surface. Other than that, the route is fantastic smile.png

Thanks for the tip. There's nothing worse than hitting gravel at speed! Except hitting it on a bend I guess.

We did this route on Sunday: http://goo.gl/maps/kD5i4

We went anticlockwise.

The road was horrible to Muang Kao - very poor and in many areas under repair. I would suggest another route to that point. From there the road was better with just some bumpy sections where overloaded trucks were crawling up the hills & destroying the road as they go. There are some great sweeping corners and for the most part it was quite enjoyable.

Then we turned off to Wang Nam Khiao. There was one little section of poor road surface (pot holes and the like) but I'd rate it a 9/10 in some sections. New surface, very little traffic. A few too many "moo bahns" so don't go blasting through them but outside of them you just need to be careful of some slow moving farm equipment. When we hit the T intersection at the end we had the choice of left into Khao Yai or right to head back to Bangkok down the Saraburi road. I wanted more bends but the guys were tired so we had a quick bite for brunch at one of the vineyards then headed back to town.

Left at 8 am, 3 stops for fuel and another for lunch. Back in Bangkok by 2pm. A good half day blast.

I can not state the number of the roads here but:

Try the back roads down to Chumporn. It is 800 km round trip and nice twisties there.

Back roads of East is also nice. A trip to Trat - areas near the Cambodian border/Hat Lek and Ko Chang - should work nice.

A trip to lakes after Kanchanaburi and Songklaburi near Burmese border is always recommended.

National Parks around Chaiyapom are wonderful they say.

But, if you want real unlimited non stop bendies, then try up North, around Phayao - was recently there with my cage- Nan and any road after Chiang Mai should work.

Nice rides guys. hope to join a ride but a lot busy nowadays with work and locked in my cage for three weeks to down South, up North, Northeast and East for around 7000 kmannoyed.gif finally back though.
