Cross The River South Of Bangkok On A Bike?

I cannot find a way to cross the river from either side of Samut Prakan. I always get routed up through Bangkok and the Taksin Bridge. There must be a way across by road, not ferry. There are 2 bridges here http://goo.gl/maps/C6tXj but as far as I know they are car only, no bikes. I haven't stopped to ask the locals, but I might do that next time I am down that way.

Anyone know of a way across? I don't want to just ride up there, I would like a legal crossing for bikes. I accidentally got on the Elevated Highway last week on my bike from Victory Monument to Nakon Pathom. It was an honest mistake, I was distracted by the red shirt demonstration going on. As soon as I saw the police in their giant helmet pointing and waving at me, I thought oops and pinned it and made it across in 10 minutes where it normally takes me 20 minutes in my truck.

Are you talking about motorbikes?

I thought you could cross in Samrong, which is in Samut Prakan, on the Poo Jao Saming Phrai Road Bridge.

Entry is the same off Suksawat but you can choose either dodgy (but never seen a policeman) Bumiphol Bridge sign posted Rama III or don't go over the bridge keep left and wind your way through Phrapadaeng and take the ferry http://goo.gl/maps/N7XQm ,that you don't want for some reason, to Bang Na to get on Bang Na-Trat.

If you take the bridge you have to negotiate Rama lll to get downtown. If you are going west and wish to avoid traffic downtown then take the ferry.

Yes, on a motorbike. Well I decided to just do it. The Bhumibol 2 bridge had small scooters on it, but so few it makes me think that it is not allowed. But, there were NO signs saying no motorbikes, so it must be legal. And there were no police stands on either side, so I wouldn't be concerned about paying the Brown Tolls. I also went on another bridge there together, but forgot the name. Both had bikes, but total I only saw less than 10 bikes on both bridges, and I went across and back. I did have to U-turn at one point, as it was turning into a toll road, the

So, that is solved. It is a shortcut from Phra Khanong/On Nut down to Cha Am/Hua Hin, which I plan on doing that ride or Phuket soon. I also go to my property in Kanchanaburi a couple of times a month, and this is just another way to go and see different things. I like to take different paths, and am tired of the Elevated Highway north of Bangkok.

Does the ferry take motorbikes? And is there a ramp, mine is a bit heavy for lifting? That route through that peninsula would be nice, as it is even closer to where I live, and I have driven my truck through there and it is nice and slow paced.

Yes a big steel ramp at both sides. Ferry loads on one side, discharges on the opposite side .

I suggest with a bigger bike simply ride on and stop on the far side of the boat. Locals turn down the length of the boat and U turn but with a "real" bike this will be difficult! The volume of traffic on Phrapadaeng has increased a lot at least when I drive my truck there!

BangNa side one has to negotiate a 1.5m wide concrete path with two bends. Unnerving maybe the first time but...
