"The regulator said most complaints it received after New York-based Imus made comments during the live broadcast of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's funeral cited a comment that most Palestinians might be upset "because Arafat stole billions of dollars from them, and they are all eating dirt. And the fat, big wife is living in Paris." "

Just another "Shock Jock" ??

Don't know if any y'all have been aware of the controversy concerning the jyllands posten newspaper in Denmark. They commissioned and printed some cartoons about Muhammed, the founder of Islam. There have been howls of protest from miscellaneous soft skinned people who claim to be devout Muslims and other apologists from the secular elites in Europe and other assorted non-free-speech advocates.

Judge for yourself .

Appears to be an issue of Free Speech to me. :o

The picture where they ran out of virgins is hilarious :o

Where can I order the T-shirt?

Just another "Shock Jock" ??

So the "who" is more important than the "what?"

Isn't the point more that some Palestinians continue to be self-delusional about what Arafat was really all about?? And they hate it when someone ..... anyone ...... points those facts out to the??

I oppose all stupid behaivor and the ones calling for death-threats, calling home their ambassadors and other morons will have to go.

In a world with free speech it means people have the right to say something that might offend someone else, that is just how it is.

Clearly they have no grasp of the concept of respecting each countries culture and yet they demand others to comply with theirs, even when migrating...

The true irony was that the publication was mad to prove that people avoided 'upsetting' muslums due to them being over-radical, while similair drawings of jesus and so on didn't stir up any boycots. And the christians where told to 'cope with it'.

I hope the EU stands united in this issue.

While we're at it, a question to ask is: Is it true that Islam forbids the making or the showing of pictures of the Prophet Mohammed? SupportDenmarkSmall2EN.png

Perhaps Butterfly can translate? :o

The injunction on Muslims not to display pictures of any animal or human (anything with a “soul”) is not in the Koran, it is part of the “Hadith”, the collection of the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad which quotes Muhammad as saying “Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture”.

Interestingly Christians and Jews are in theory subject to a similar injunction – the second commandment instructs adherents not to worship any “graven image”.

The first caricature in the series published in Jyllands-posten remind me of the anti-Jew caricatures used as propaganda in Nazi Germany.

I wonder Boon Mee, would you still be so eager to support the Danish defending 'freedom of speech' if Jyllands-posten had published a series of tired old Jewish stereotypes instead?

...and how come your buddy GWB and his knights of free speech recently handcuffed a citizen for wearing the wrong t-shirt?

Meadish, they did publish a series of similar caricatures of Jesus, and it was no big deal. It's just the muslims who are anal retentive.

Because they hate "freedum" like their Nazi friends :D

Good Point on the anti-Jew caricatures

I am sure Freedom of Speech would prevail :o

Exactly. :o

Posting of caricatures of Jesus is not the same as posting caricatures of Fundamentalist Christians and their "silly" rules. Didn't they kill doctors and burn clinic to express their faith ? :o

Not the wrong t-shirt - just the place and time of the event... :o

Meanwhile: A Couple Blasphemous Cartoons

  • 2 weeks later...

Saw a Thai guy wearing a t-shirt yesterday.

A cartoon picture of a guy sitting on a toilet tearing pages out of a book (to use as toilet paper).

The text next to the picture reads: The Koran, now in 2-ply !

Of course the Thais rarely seem too concerned about what is on the t-shirts they wear (evident by the number of shirts you see with Nazi swatikas or profanity displayed).

I wonder what would happen to that guy if he wandered into a certain area of South Pattaya ? Do you think they would treat him with peace and tolerance ?

They'd probably just ran out of the T-shirts where Usama Bin Laden is buggering GWB, with the caption 'Make Love Not War'. Or the ones saying 'fuck fuckity fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck fuck' ... with a picture of a pumpkin underneath. Or the one with great Socialist leaders - Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Hitler.

Not to worry. It is all good. :o

I'd like to see these so called 'sensitive' muslims protesting against the acts of terrorism being carried out in Muhammed's name, but that doesn't seem to bother them so much

Some of us had a long, dragged out discussion about this on a different thread. On of the members was a Muslim.

We pointed out that when atrocities are carried out by Muslim groups, rarely is there any outrage heard from the greater Muslim community, even if innocent Muslims are among the victims.

I made the point that when people in the west hear only silence in response to the various atrocities, they get the impression that the greater Muslim community actually condones the actions, and is loathe to speak out against their own, especially if the targets (and victims) are primarily non-Muslims.

Look at the current outrage over some cartoons printed over 6 months ago. Compare that with the silence heard from that community over the Bali bombings, the beheading of innocent hostages, even the hotel bombings in Jordan.

There was a small, non-violent, 1 day protest in Egypt after the multiple bombings in Sharm-el-Sheik last July. Most of the protesters were employees of various establishments that depended on tourism, who were upset at the possibility of a downturn in the industry.

Remember too that after 9/11, there were celebrations held in many Muslims areas, even (supposedly) in the US. I may be wrong, but I don't recall any condemnation of that act coming from the peaceful and tolerant members of that religion.

Like past World Wars, this war has no place for neutrality. You either stand in solidarity against tyranny and fanatical evil or you support it by its appeasement. There can be no secret Neville Chamberlain exchanges with an enemy that fanaticizes about the complete destruction of our way of life. In recent months, the political left…

Thank you, Meadish.

I was contemplating of posting an image of 'Jude Suess' and point to the similarity ot how Arabs and Muslims are depicted nowadays, but maybe we can do without looking at this offensive image.

And I guess Boon Mee and co. would only deem it 'funny', anyway. :o

Many an American who gave their life in WW2 would turn in their graves if they saw what their offspring is up to these days.

You mean like this? :o

Good post.

Just replace the blurb with something about Zionism and Jewish money cutting people's throats, spreading evil, etc...

Welcome to the racism your fathers fought against, Boon Mee. :D

Btw, still making fun of the 'liberals' = 'socialists' leaving The US? - nothing new, the Nazis thought of this long before you did:

042434.jpg Caption: "The Flying Limberger that has carried so many SPD members abroad" The point is that many socialists were fleeing Germany. The cartoon suggests that Germany is better off without them. (24 April 1934)

Good luck to Michael in France. :o

Cartoons like that are a regular occurance in many mainstream Arab newspapers and magazines, yet you never hear anyone protesting that.

But it's OK, because peaceful and tolerant people don't get upset over a simple cartoon.........

Gadaffi, Arafat, Mubarak, King Abdulah, The Aga Kahn, Crown Prince Abdulah, Musharif, Mohamed Ali, and even the Taliban's forgien minister (take that last one with a huge grain of salt) are among a the prominent muslims who all condemned it.

I stand (sit) corrected !! :D

(Though, just to be obstinate, how many of those people you've noted could be considered "peaceful and tolerant" ?) :o

Must admit I did a double-take reading Gadaffi's "We must all work together to end the scourge of terrorism" speech.

Kinda like hearing Ronald McDonald speaking out against obesity. :D
