Please Leave Your Loaded Handgun At Home

Featured Replies

Not exactly news BUT! did anyone else get stuck waiting outside the U.S. embassy this afternoon due to a very embarrassed man forgetting to remove his pistol from HIS SON'S BACKPACK!!?

Almost unbelievable....Amazing Thailand. It would have been big news if the gun accidently discharged and killed someone.

Notice that google has a number of handgun ads just above your post. I guess they picked up on the keywords and thought gee, maybe we can sell some handguns. Just now the ads changed to travel ads.

One does not forget a handgun in a kids backpack. That was what you call a test run.

cheesy.gif , think someone must look into the guy's habits. cheesy.gif

Does not say how old the kid is, but maybe it was 'show and tell' day at school.

Isn't owning a firearm illegal in Thailand?

Isn't owning a firearm illegal in Thailand?

For foreigners, yes. Which makes the gun banners being served on this page pretty funny.

NO. 100% legal.

Owning without a Thai issued license is illegal.

Applies to Thai or foreigner. Harder for foreigner to get but can be done.

Incorrect. Foreigners can own a fire arm in Thailand legally. They do have meet certain requirements.

@khwaibah. In the URLs you provided where does it say it is legal to have a concealed weapon in public in Thailand, without applying for authorisation to do so?

You might be right.

Yes and the ad is beside "Thailand Visas" I guess the two go hand in hand, if your coming to Thailand buy a gun?

Was nationality was the Father? Thai? U.S.? Other?

Dry run...who knows? but I really doubt it. Brother did a pretty convincing mea culpa. As for his nationality, I'd guess Thai, but since we U.S.'ers come in all shapes, sizes and colors....you get the idea.

What cracked me up was later, inside “citizen services” some old betty was complaining about having to wait outside.

Good old internet, another URL below that states "You are not allowed to bring a gun with you into a city, neighborhood, or public areas without a license for carrying one on you".

http://www.thailawforum.com/database1/thailand-gun-law.html

For creditability, about the website:

The Thailand Law Forum (TLF) was established in 1997 as part of an effort by Thai and American law professors to provide an online English-language resource of Thailand law and academic articles concerning Thai law. TLF’s objectives include: 1) providing an unbiased and comprehensive base of information concerning Thailand and Southeast Asian law and society and 2) to promote better governance and social justice through the dissemination of information and encouragement of dialogue on important legal and social issues.

A farang can own A gun in Thailand but it's not easy. Most of us just have our better half go thru the trouble, license etc.

Wrong, if you've got a residence permit you can own a gun as a farang :)

whistling.gif Question....if anyone knows....was it stopped at the security extrance?

I certainly hope so.

PMD, this is not an unusual occurrence here in the US. You'll see on the news where some kid went to school and a gun was found in his backpack, left there and forgotten by a careless adult.

Came across TSA website today. Is pretty shocking how many people in USA are getting caught trying to take weapons on the plane's, Intentional or not.

Just google TSA Blog for some interesting reading. Not thai related but puts in perspective how common it is.
