When Do Floods Usually End.. Or Should I Not Care ?

Featured Replies

I am trying to plan a trip to Thailand.

I missed my plane one year because the airport was shut down, it sucked, but I got to go anyways but my Carrier was trying to tell me that my portion that goes to Japan for a change over is still possible, they backed off when I reminded them I purchased a flight to BKK not Japan... lol.., (Air Canada) LOL

Anyways, I was gong to fly in November this year, but as things are, this is the biggest part of the flood season right ? And this is going to be as bad or worse than last year ?

Should I bother timing my flight over after the floods should be gone, or I guess I could change regions if it is bad, but I don't want to fly into bangkok and get soaked up to my airpits swimming out of town...

ps Does Chiang Mai have the flood problem ? I wanted to go early to avoid the smoky season, and later to avoid the hot season.

Maybe I should just go ?

What you think people ?

I think you should bring me a bottle of wine and I'll help you drink it.

i'd just go...

im going in about 2 1/2 weeks.. if you have already bought it.. just go..

Flooding this year is no way near as bad as last year.

If you have bought the ticket just come.

When the flooding hits Bkk, then all problems have long left CM.

CM is in the mountains and eventhough this is amazing Thailand, the water still runs down hill towards the ocean (Bkk)!

Nov. in CM is beautiful ... cool weather, dry and no smoke.

Hope this helps .... smile.png

Rule of thumb here in Phuket is that rains are over by time of Loy Kraton festival, which is about two weeks into November (variable because based on lunar calendar). Lika nay rule of thumb, some are shorter, some are longer. Only once in past ten years do I recall SW monsoon rains continuing much beyond mid-November. Of course intermittent showers will happen all throughout the year.

If I were you I would not come before November so as so avoid the floods but do come before February so as to avoid the hot season and the smoke and pollution ever where. There again, to avoid the toursist rush at Xmas and NY it's probably best to come before second week December but after second week January, allowing for local holidays that means either come on 26 November and leave on the 28th else come on 10 January and depart on 14 January.

Have a great holiday., hope this helps. biggrin.png

Chiang Mai won't flood this year, in fact it usually doesn't.
