I remember hearing about an earthquake in Iran back in 2004 I think it was. Something like 5,000 people killed ?

The Iranian government actually blamed the earthquake on the West !

Not that anyone in the west caused the quake, but the people in the cities/villages affected by the quake were too Western in their thinking, and the earthquake was Allah's revenge for their wayward thinking!

I seem to recall some (radicals no doubt) claiming the hurricanes that hit the US last year were Allah's revenge against the US. Funny how Allah didn't get the blame (or the credit) for the tsunami or the Pakistan earthquake.

Let's see,

hurricanes in the US = 1,500 (mostly infidels) dead (+/- a few)

tsunami in SE Asia = 200,000 (mostly muslims) dead

earthquake in Iran = 5,000 (mostly muslims who were too "western" in their thinking) dead

earthquake in Pakistan = 80,000 (mostly muslim) dead

If Allah actually exists, I get the impression he's not too happy with his followers, a point that seems to have missed by his more radical members.

The death toll was actually several times higher. Also, at least the prior regime was willing to accept US aid. This nutcase who is running the country now would probably reject similar aid if there were to be another similar disaster.

Shades of Salman Rushdie ....

Islamic cleric offers $1M bounty on cartoonist's head.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060217/ap_on_...rophet_drawings

I saw that. I first heard a report that it was $25,000 US. Now it's up to 1 million.

What I haven't seen is anyone condemning this.

Imagine if someone offered 1 mil for the the President of Iran's head ? Think there'd be any outrage ?

Libyan's burn Italian consulate in Benghazi, in cartoon protest ! Rioters clash with police. 9, maybe 11 dead.

Funny how this is just happening, quite awhile after riots were going on elsewhere. Pakistan had over 4 straight days of rioting before this incident in Libya.

Why the Italian consulate ? Apparently it was the only "Western" diplomatic mission in the city. Didn't matter that the Italians had nothing to do with the cartoons. The rioters were looking to attack anything "western".

I think it's the same reason McD's and KFC get hit.

Funny this happened in Libya, who has been trying to get back in the west's good books for a couple years now. No real history of islamic radicalism, (although many terrorist links) and not alot of demonstrations happen there without the iron-fisted government's at least passive aquiessence.

an Italian politician was photographed wearing a t-shirt with one of the cartoons printed on it........ go figure the mentality of the Polly and the Libyans...

Hardly funny. Islamo-wacko-ism is probably the most important issue of the current and subseqent generation.

When was the last time that a relative unknown piss-ant stirred up a bunch of trouble with large groups of un-led, visionless people, with the thought of establishing a supreme race and culture, and totally anhilating anyone who didn't belong?

Just a little reminiscent of Hitler and 1930's Germany, don't you think? Fortunately, compared to Hitler these wacko's are relatively disorganized, widely dispersed and not heavily armed. But this is one of the reasons why countries like US and UK don't take this shit lightly.

Different reasons maybe. There has always been a sort of 'close' relationship with Khadaffi's Lybia; 'he' had a 'stake' in FIAT cars also.

AND: to draw the attention from the World Press, as the WINTER OLYMPICS in Torino are going on right now. :o

Suddenly, long after the protests flared up other places in the world, there are now protests in Nigeria.

Are those Dutch Imams still touring the Muslim world, stirring up trouble ?

Why has it taken so long for these other places (like Libya and Nigeria) to get on the protest bandwagon ? It's been what, 2 weeks since the first protests started up (almost simultaneously) in the various ME countries ?

Surely the local Imams have telephones, if not internet access ?

It says:

Mo says: dhimmi (this is not Danish - I think it is a play on an arabic word for "ghost" - something like that) up you block-head. or I will beat your arse*.

It's not written by a Dane because the word order is incorrect - it makes the most common error made by foreigners who learn Danish - forgetting to reverse the order of the verb and the subject in a subordinate sentence.

*EDIT// the phrase could be "cut your d*ck off ". It is not familiar Danish. The whole sentence is probably a bad word for word translation into Danish of a familiar Arabic saying. These things never work.

Earlier in this thread (was it this one ?) there was a discussion about why the violence was flaring up in the Arab (Muslim) countries, but not in places like Indonesia.

Well, that has changed. It has taken them awhile, but now there are protests in Jakarta, and guess who they are targeting ?

The US. The protestors marched on the embassy and tried to force their way in, but couldn't make it through the gates.

Once again, it makes me wonder. Protests flare up almost simultaneously in many Arab countries, followed over a week later by protests in Pakistan, followed by some African countries, and now, Indonesia.

Someone has to be behind this. The news about these cartoons was out long ago. We know that the protests where instigated by a group of Danish Imams that toured the M.E., looking to stir up trouble for what ever reason. The fact that these protests are ongoing (in some places), suddenly cropping up in places scattered around the world, and now mostly directed against the US, makes me believe that there is an agenda behind this. This isn't a spontaneous response to what should have been a minor diplomatic flap.

Funny, there was a picture of Butterfly published recently on TV.

He didn't fit this description - to put it mildly. :D

I was the one who talked about not in Indonesia. I agree with what you are saying. The protests outside of the Middle East were certainly not spontaneous expressions of the local people or they would have happened sooner.

I didn't feel like going back through 8 pages to see who it was :o

Maybe someone from here saw that discussion and informed those Dutch Imams that they forgot about Indonesia ? Maybe that would explain the delay ?

Or maybe they just couldn't arrange connecting flights any sooner.

Well, Garuda does have a reputation for frequent breakdowns/crashes :o

No British newspapers have printed the cartoons.

Just to put things in perspective, the UK still has a blasphemy law on its books. About 15 years ago some Christian group (I think it was the Rev. Fred Nile) brought a blasphemy charge against a poet who had depicted Christ as gay - and he was found guilty. The fine was nominal, but conservative Christians considered it a moral victory. I don't know how the law is worded, but it's possible a British newspaper reprinting the Mohammed cartoons could be violating the law.

The blasphemy law in the UK only applies to Christianity. The prosecution was bought by Mary Whitehouse and it was a centurion at the crucificion that was gay in the poem rather than Jesus.

Here is a fair and balanced cartoon from the Arab media (Egypt, 21 April 2001)

It depicts Jews squishing Arabs in a press and then drinking their blood. Note that the "Jews" all have the Star of David displayed (no sensitivity towards their religion).

Considering the utter, stubborn, stupidity of the their Arab enemies, "squishing" terrorists and their supporters might eventually be the Jew's only option to live in peace. :o
