I'm aware of several threads on this subject but none that are relevant to my question.

I have a 1 year Thai DL which is due to expire on 19th Dec 2012. I need to renew and obtain my 5 year licence.

I live near Korat so don't want to go to Embassy in BKK (or pay the 3,000B).

I've lived in Thailand for nearly 2 years but recently returned to the UK for a family visit and re-entered Thailand on a UK Visa and being given 90 day stay which requires me to apply for extension on 31st Dec (!)

I'm married to a Thai, on a Non-O visa and previously had a 1 year extension and done 90 day reporting at Korat immigration so familiar with the process.

My question - can I go and get my 12 month extension before 19th Dec (i.e. 12 days early) and get a proof of address to be used for Driving Licence renewal at the same time?

PS an alternative; is there any grace period in renewing the DL - apply for 5 year licence in New Year after 12 month Extension

The five year driving licence has to be applied for after the one year has expired.

So January should be OK
