So the dealer implied that the hypermotard will be assembled here. He also thinks the multistrada will follow. The motor show next month will confirm ;]

Interesting...

Was this referring to the 796 Hyper or was he suggesting that a NEW Asian-market one, ie. 795 Hyper etc. was to be produced here?

Either way this would absolutely rock....

I didnt get to specific but if i were to guess it would have a 795 engine. I have been bike shopping and there was another customer trying to sell a two year old monster 796. Well we all know this poor soul is gonna take a beating if he has to sell it.

Realizing that i dont want to be in that situation i started asking questions.

Multistrada would really mess up my plans for the z1000...

Well i was not impressed with my test ride on the monster 795. The bad; transmission clunked up and down shifting, the gearing is not set up for traffic, the bike backfires quietly on deceleration and gasohol will destroy the gas tank.

The pros for a thai bike. Price, nice power and torque, parts should be here and the ducati name.

maybe that one - rumored new hypermotard with an 848 SF engine.... ok rumored, it's not really rumored, more like more and more "spy shots" are being released by Ducati...

multi will only makes sense... they're already assembling the Diavel and the Monster 795 here...

I want both of those bikes smile.png

This has got to be the worst time ever to buy any imported bike with so many made in Thailand bikes in the pipeline. Ducati, Z800, Honda's CB/R/X500...

Whoa!!I just found this!!!

http://www.ducatiblo...odels-for-2013/

From that site:

Here are some new info on the hot new bike station on 2013. Finally, it is not one but three new middleweight Ducati presented in Milan: the Multistrada 820, Hypermotard 820 roadster and 820, equipped with the same engine. Strongly EICMA 2012! These information are to be taken seriously. Ducati is launching a new range of motorcycles for 2013, based on a unique and all-new platform!

New engine 820 cm3, ride-by-wire, three maps, 115 hp!

Always type L-Twin, the new twin Ducati 820 2013 will be slightly raised in the frame with a horizontal cylinder before less than usual. The engine therefore reach 820 cm3, for a water-cooled engine and has a latest electronic, including the type accelerator must “ride by wire” (without cable) to facilitate the implementation of assistance and control consumption and pollution. The new Ducati engine will develop 115 horsepower and nearly 9 daN.m or sharp performance for such a displacement based on only two pistons. All have three modes of injection mapping.

Ducati Multistrada 820, Hypermotard 820, and a new roadster … for 2013

If it's made in Thailand - and I assume it will be - I am definitely getting one of these. November 12th we'll get all the details.

Hmm.. I think I just forgot all about the Z800 or those not bad looking new Honda 500s...

I had my heart set on the new Z800 too...until I read this!

So we will see a 820 Hyper, 820 Multi & 820 Diavel?

i would be surprised if they have a 820 diavel

@Pauljones I was thinking the same thing. What the hell is a 820 roadster supposed to look like? A mini Diavel? Or maybe just a bad translation from French? Nov. 12th will tell...

Maybe the roadster refers to a new Monster. The current Monster design came out in 2008. Mind you 115 bhp could easily power the Diavel (although not as quickly) I belive the lowest setting on the current model is 100bhp and max computer setting is 150 bhp.

But then again, Ducati could pull a Triumph and assemble here because its cheap, but then send everything back for export from Italy. Then, as with Triumph, you would have to pay all the "foreign made" taxes to get a Thai made

Ducati. In such a case, the joy of this deal becomes rather illusory. Anybody have the scoop?

The scoop is that this is not happening.

Ducati is already selling locally assembled Diavel and Monster 795 for the local, non-import price.

Next off the Thai assembly line, the Multistrada, Hypermotard followed by the Streetfighter later I predict.

Well my bet is

1.hypermotard

2. multisrada

3. never street fighter

Triumph's bikes for sale on the domestic market don't actually leave the country and return.

I don't. I was looking forward to the Hyper, BUT NO UNDERSEAT EXHAUST!!! :-(

So, in normal countries is the Hyper 796 cheaper than the Monster 796 (ABS)??

On the Ducati Thailand website the Hyper is about Bt60,000 cheaper.

What kind of price would you guys speculate for a Thai made Hyper to the specs of the 795? - or if dreams in pictures come true, would sort of money do you think a new Hyper 822 built-in-Thai would go for, given the 400k price for the 795?

I guess we'll find out soon enough!

i hear lots of people complain about the seat heat being unbearable with underseat exhaust. Whats the problem with side exhaust as its not a track bike.

I don't know why but the locally made Ducatis seem to be about 30% more expensive than the same model in the USA (after adding VAT). Not sure there's tax reasons (imported parts??) or they just got greedy... this is true both for the Diavel and the Monster 795. The latter doesn't have a direct western equivalent but the general consensus is that it uses cheaper parts than the 796 so it should be cheaper if anything.

From that I'd expect these to be in the 400 - 450k range, and $10k - $11k overseas.

Just looks. Underseat exhausts and single side swing arms just look awesome IMO. :-)

If I have to choose between cool looks and cooked balls, I know where my priorities lie ;)

Lol yeah I'd have to agree.

Putting the weight of the exhaust up so high always seemed like a bad idea really, low centre of gravity and all that. Must have been designed by someone freezing their arse off driving to work in Sweden/Alasaka...
