There is and never was any such rule. The rule applied only to visa exempt entry and was rescinded years ago when they changed to 15 day entry at land borders (although they do not seem to have informed IATA of this).

You will not denied a visa but you might get a red stamp telling you that the one they give you is the last one. I suggest you show some proof of income from outside of Thailand to submit with your application (IE: bank book showing foreign transfers into the country or at the least ATM slips). The reason they use for giving the stamp is that they suspect you are illegally working here.

Since i went to vientiane 3 years ago (ish) and was refused (i asked a double toursim visa) because i had 3 double visa tourism already, i can tell u that this rule was in place at vientiane.

Now, if it's not the case anymore, good for me i guess !

thx for the answer !

Lopburi3 thought you were writing about the old rule for visa exempt entries not tourist visas.

You could try the consulate in Savannakhet instead of Vientiane that also issue 2 entry visas.

Or if you wanted a 3 entry valid for 6 moths you could go to the consulate in Bali.

I applied for a single entry TV 2 weeks ago and was granted it,I had 5 previous tourist visas both single and double entry BUT all were issued by Hull in the UK,I think the moral of the story here is that if you continue to use the same embassy/consulate in neighbouring countries to Thailand it becomes obvious to them that you are not here as a tourist but are living here, and this causes suspicion of working illegally, after all how does some one continue to stay here so long with no regular income, although you and me know that it's very feasible to live here if like me you have just banked £13,000 from a two month offshore contract and are awaiting a phone call to go back.

I would bring a flight itinerary to be sure. I think they'll give you one more with this, but they will probably red stamp you and/or tell you this will be the last one.

Of course you'd be welcome to try somewhere different in the future.

Believe Vientiane normally allows up to 5 previous visa now before cutting off issue or only allowing single. As said I read as the visa exempt rule because do not see the heading information when reading every post if information not contained in the post itself - my error but something to remember as it seems to happen to others too. Best to also contain information in the post text.
