New Pheu Thai Chief Says He'll Work To Bring Thaksin Home

If poor old hard done by Thaksin can't afford the airfare back to Thailand, maybe ThaiVisa could start a collection for a one-way airfare plus cab fare from the airport to the nearest prison.

He is free to return anytime he likes, however ThaiVisa might have to offer a first class ticket and limo from the airport to fit in with his percieved status.

It would be an appropriate and magnanimous gesture if one of Thai Elite Card holders could extend him the benefit of their airport limo services.

That might be going a bit too far.

K. Thaksin handed the first black and gold coloured cards to VIP travellers who paid US$25,000 for the privilege, November 2003. I would assume that he himself got the card with a lucky number, like 99999 to symbolise the 100,000 it was expected to be sold by the end of 2004 and bringing THB 100 billion in revenue.

As then opposition leader Abhisit complained about granting foreigners too many rights (like land owner rights) we never really got much past 2400. Blame those pesky Democrats rolleyes.gif

Cab??? TS will want nothing less than a Limo, I hope it will be similar to the one depicted in jbrain's post #29.

Get the pink furry handcuffs ready...

PTP really has no interest in grass roots, it only exists for one reason, and that's as a vehicle for Thaksin and his clan to get their noses in the trough and avoid any legal issues. Despicable family, despicable party.

It is something very plain to see, but a significant number of people delude themselves into actually believing the man.

The insidious thing is how he managed to hijack the cause of rights and equality for society's downtrodden as a vehicle for his and his family enrichment and power acquisition, thus putting any real progress in those areas in the freezer while he remains in charge.

I fail to understand how in any country which is accepted into the international community has one of its' forerunners aiding a convicted criminal who has commited both terrorist acts and blue collar crimes against his own people. In any other country, this type of activity is referred to as "corruption" or "organised crime".

Such political figures involved are taken to trial at the countries highest courts, and often prosecuted (such as those in the Berlesconi regime, who permitted La Gamorra to dump toxic waste under contract in the previously lush north east countryside fields of Italy).

Former-PM Abhisit didn't actually become leader of the Dems, until after Banyat Bantadtan had led the party to defeat in the February-2005 elections, some time after the launch of the Thai-Elite Card Scam Scheme.

So IMO it's unlikely that he was to blame, for the failure of Thaksin's pet-idea, to ever get going.

No, Thaksin can take full credit, for designing and failing-to-research, this outstanding success expensive failure. Put that down to the target-consumers, who were dubious about how long the benefits on-offer might outlast Thaksin's government, indeed things like the right to own a plot of Thai land didn't survive long.

There is too much emotion in many of the above quotes. The fact is Taksin has become an irritation. His guidance to the Thai government in his absence without having reconciled his own issues is an obstruction to the normal process of governance and is most unwelcome.

True he was illegally removed from office. That's history. The fact is that he appears to be playing his tunes to the Red Shirts. Meanwhile hands on attention attention is urgently required to resolve Thailand's pressing matters of state.

I am with Yingluck all the way if only she can discard the albatross that is hanging around her neck..

Facts check please, he wasn't illegally removed from office, at the time he was caretaker prime-minister.

"Thida likened the Pheu Thai Party to a boat, and the UDD to water that could either support or sink it."

I would liken the P.T.P. to the Titanic and the U.DD.D..to the iceberg that sank the Titanic ,.

The P.T.P. polices and the backing of the U.D.D. in supporting the return of Thaksin will indeed result in the sinking of the Thaitanic with a enormous loss of hands.

The cost of the search and rescue operation conducted by both the I.M.F. and the World Bank after the Thaitanic hits the U.D.D. iceberg if the Thaitanics course is not changed will be both an extremely costly and long lasting operation that will plunge the Thai nation people into an abyss of the darkness of enormous debt..

While he is an elite Thai, as a Thai, he's not eligible for a Thai Elite Card, as only foreigners can have a Thai Elite Card.

AFAIK

He did, however, receive the very first Thai Smart Card (the ill-named identity card).

Corruption and confusion in 'Smart Card' fiasco

After eight years of delay and the outlay of billions of baht, the "Smart Card" project to provide all Thais with a modern ID card has become bogged down in a corruption-plagued scandal.

BANGKOK: -- The project was started by the Thaksin Shinawatra government in 2004, but no investigation has ever been ordered into why Bt7.91 billion was approved for 64 million identity cards for all Thais, which were wracked with problems and divided into three lots over the past five to six years.

It's this sort of shenanigans Thailand is returning to....

Crimes are 'political". Since when is fraud, abuse of power and lining your clans pockets been considered a political crime? He wasn't found guilty by some kangaroo court of politicians but by a court of law. He chose to abscond and also not to face additional court cases which may carry bigger sentences if found guilty.

PTP couldn't care less about rule of law, Thai people, the country etc. Just about lining their own pockets and creating a dictatorship for DL. Regimes like this have just been thrown out in some countries. But here, accepted. If your poor support PTP, if your rich support Democrats. Everyone just out for themselves, funded by corruption and lies and driven by face saving and prserving the status quo. Sad.

Dont forget Thaksin has his own plane, so no need for airfare and Chaelem has his pink Bently to transport him to the Bangkok Hilton.

THAT is Chalerm's jam jar? The very quintessence of vulgarity! I thought only the likes of Jayne Mansfield could stoop to such tastelessness. Does he wear shirts unbuttoned to the waist, wear a chest wig and sport brass medallions around his neck too? Chalerm, the ultimate Chav?

They need to get this done in the governments current term because Thaksin plans to be PM for the next term.

I'd not be at all shocked if he pulls it off.

Frankly pedro01, I think Mr Thaksin's aspirations are higher than mere Prime Minister, I think he sees himself in a more "commanding" and prestigious role. I am sure you can see the writing on the wall?

"Thida likened the Pheu Thai Party to a boat, and the UDD to water that could either support or sink it."

That would be a "ship of fools" then. Or perhaps a garbage scow, or a 19th century prison hulk, rotten to the core and going nowhere.

And I think I know which BKK klong she was thinking of - toxic, full of rubbish, and with a thick layer of scum and excrement.

Yeah, and the moment Thaksin takes his finger out of the pirate ship Pheu Thai it will go down faster than a Pattaya bar girl.

"......... Thaksin had become the target of a military coup because he had brought changes to the country and helped grass-roots people."

Another one who has no hesitation to make statements which are far from the truth.

Actually I's very simple; the 'help the grass roots' stuff is a very simple but very effective, and highly immoral, smokescreen for:

Maybe if he returns we'll also see a return of the halcyon days of economic prosperity, low crime and unity that were the underpinnings of his tenure from 2001 until 2005.

Anything that lessens the power and influence of the Army and their backers is a good thing IMO.

I would love to see TS successfully return to Thailand just to see all of the line towers on TV wet their panties.

Choosing a political stance on the basis of what a bunch of strangers on an anonymous forum may or may not do? You really need professional help. While you're there they can look at your multiple personality disorder too.

Plus, crime, actually the man himself was instrumental in the murder of nearly 3 thousnd Thais, including children.

But hey farang talk, maybe you support the paymasters lack of respect for the law, and his double standards when he tells his manipulated followers to fight for democracy and equal justice.

He certainly doesn't include the thousands and thousands murdered in the South since Thaksin escalated "the low crime rate" in 2004.

btw, He probably meant the Haldol Days of Thaksin.
