Hi All.

I am an Aussie and my Thai wife and I are interested in sometime this year visiting the U.K. My wife has been to Australia before for three months and abided by the conditions of her visa, we have been married, by the time we intend to travel, for three years. We have a daughter together who is Thai and she will not be travelling with us. My wife is not employed although we do have a stable home in Thailand. Due to ourselves travelling without our daughter we only plan to be in the U.K. for about ten days.

Q,1. Is it more beneficial or even possible for me to apply for a torist visa for myself and my wife from Canberra, Australia? Or would I need to obtain my visa in Australia and my wifes in Thailand or both of us just apply in Thailand?

Q,2. Given That we will only be staying for a relativly short amout of time, what are some of the places to reccomend seeing. A part of our stay would involve London and we would like for part of our stay take a tour for a number of days if possible. Any recomendations?

Q,3. What is it like in getting a tourist visa? For my wife and I to come to Australia two years ago it was'nt overly simple. What are some of the traps involved with the Brittish embassys in regards to a Thai woman visiting the U.K. I've heard it is quite difficult? Any advice?

Thanks, Damo....

As an Aussie, you don't need a visit visa for the UK, but can get 6 months on entry.

Providing that you can show that the futures of you, your wife and your daughter are in Thailand and that you can pay for the trip, then your wife and child probably stand a better than average chance of getting a visa.

Sorry, got to rush out now.

To resume........

You should support your wife's and daughter's visa applications with evidence that you live in Thailand; e.g. your work permit and/or your passport showing your Thailand immigration status. Also submit your marriage certificate and a letter from your/your wife's employer. You will additionally need to show that you have the money to pay for the holiday and that you have somewhere to stay. The accommodation could be with friends or a hotel. Also have a rough idea what you want to see: anyone who says "Big Ben" gets refused entry (unless they're American).

To be honest, I think your missus and child will be in with a decent shot as if they were going to breach the immigration rules, it would be in Australia, not the UK. Furthermore, she has previously visited Australia without incident.

Cheers,

Scouse.
