Not sure if this is the very best forum, but could not find one better.

My situation. I want to buy a storage upgrade for my Macbook Air. A 480gb new ssd storage card, purchased from the US of A to replace the installed 256gb. No problem there, but what about when it arrives in Thailand.

Does anyone know if this will be held up by Thai customs, what charges will be levied, paperwork, or any other problems. Or would it simply arrive at my door step without delay?

Thanks for any help.

There have been a ton of threads/posts on first hand experiences shipping gear from the U.S. Experiences/results vary widely, as you can imagine. People seem to find FedEx perhaps the most difficult to deal with as most items go straight to Thai Customs/Excise, where overall additional fees - VAT, duty, excise, et al. - can run 50 - 200%.

Some search terms might be: shipito, thai customs, duty, vat, UPS, FedEx, SMS, ordering computer equipment on line, etc.

Two examples:

I brought a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD around 5-6 months ago from B&H photo US site. No tax when reached here. Used USPS

You should avoid at all cost courier company like UPS, DHL, Fedex, TNT and etc.

Most of my package (mostly pc hardware or accessories) are ship via USPS, EMS (Korea/Japan), Register AirMail (Malaysia, UK, Australia . Almost 99% dont have incur tax. Value of item can reach 450USD

Declared value seem like does play important part here. I got a Ergo Keyboard (Kinesis Advantage) shipped via USPS Priority Int Mail with declare value of USD265. Was in custom clearance status for more than 24 hours. But in the end still no import tax. Very lucky

I bought an Intel SSD a few years ago from overseas. Used Fedex to get it on my doorstep 4 days later, they asked an additional 7% on my declared cost inc shipping. It came with an additional notebook in same package. Used Fedex 5 times this way now and same result each time.
