For about a week, my phone has problems connecting to WiFi. The WiFi adapter always switches on and off and cannot establish a connection. Sometimes the WiFi symbol is green (= on) but the bar beneath it is Grey (= off).

Another (unrelated?) problem for about the same time is a flickering screen, lines are flickering for a split second all over the screen. Doesn't happen often but it is annoying when it happens.

Android 4.0.4.

Is this just on say one particular WiFi network? Every WiFi network? Are you switching back to WiFI from a 3G connection, say when returning home?

Sometimes the router loses track of IP addresses and then gets conflicts.

I assume you have re-started your phone - turn off, battery pull - and your router? What security protocols are you using? Can you temporarily turn off any security protocols and test the connection?

Did something change ~ in the last week? Maybe an update from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 or even a small update?

There are a lot of similar issues on XDA, with many different presentations and solutions - some related to power management and "WiFI sleep" modes.

It happens apparently on any WiFi network, so it must be the phone.

I looked at the xda site but it is too much tech talk gibberish there and it doesn't help me at all.

Will try the hard reset tonight.

No idea when the upgrade to 4.0.4 happened, but I suspect it has to do with it.

Did this Note replace your "barely 1 year old" Nexus S which had a projected life of four years?

Can you post the baseband version? Settings, About phone, Baseband version:

Without answers to my original questions, and scant detail, the least invasive fix might be to flash the old 4.0.3 firmware, or maybe a different version of 4.0.4.

If it were mine I would root it, mod it and flash different modems via CWM but I suspect that is not an option here.

I can't see that hard reset option doing much?

A firmware upgrade fixed a lot of wierd happenings on my Samsung Note. If you purchased the note in Thailand I heard that the authorized Samsung service shops can be very helpful.

Yep, it replaced my Nexus S, as someone was dying to buy it from me and I got offered a 2nd hand notes at the same time. B)

Baseband version: N7000DXLR1

I tried to root another Notes before (looooong story...), almost bricked it. The guys at MBK brought it back alive with wires soldered to the CPU and several hours of work. Open heart surgery, will never do that again...

I'm also not sure whether the hard reset will really do something about it and with the work involved (settings, accounts.....) I'm a bit reluctant to it.

There is a known bug in the Note. You need to install a Note-friendly kernel like AbyssNote or you are guaranteed to brick it if you do a full wipe.
