Camping On Doi Mae Salong

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm off to Mae Sai for a visa run next month, me and the gf are going to stay one night in Mae Sai itself for a change, as opposed to Chiang Rai.

Have been looking at sightseeing and she mentioned Doi Mae Salong, which i have never visited before, i have been googling and found a couple of hotels on Doi Mae Salong, but then she came up with the crackng idea of camping for a night.

So was wondering if anyone has done this, or know if its at all possible?

For info we are travelling from Chiang Mai and have our own transport.

Thanks

Hi!

I asked my wife and she said, that a resort or hotel up there is very exspensive, and most people buy or rent a tent-but can be a very cold pleasure.

Hope you and gf may have a good and safe trip.Give us a litle feed back, when you are back home-and hopefully a couple of pictures to.

Take care!

Thanks! That is good to know. I had a look online at the hotel/guesthouse and agree they seem expensive for what you get.

I will indeed update this thread when i return with a report and pics.

Thanks again.

There are quite a few inexpensive guest houses in Mae Salong. I stay at Shin Sane, I think it was 250 baht/night. Hardly worth camping.

Might be a bit nippy, camping that high up, at this time of year ?

I've seen basic camp-sites come and go, in Mae Salong itself, there are also several on the Mae-Chan to Tha-Ton road, I've seen them while hanging onto the back of the overloaded song-theaw !

Personally use the Shin Sane G.H., their bungalows (double-bed & basic en-suite & satellite-TV) were 200B (single-occupancy) or 300B (for two people) last time I was there. Simple & inexpensive ! The food at both Shine Sane and Little Home is similar, lots of nice crunchy veggies, and not expensive.

Happy Travels ! smile.png
