Google Chrome - New Tab

Featured Replies

I've figured out how to make Chrome open on a homepage I want, however when I open a new tab it always comes up with this rubbish - (removed)

How can I get rid of this, and what is it and where did it come from?

Google the link for information first - do not post any suspect links on forum please.

Go to Settings, look for "On Startup". If you have "Open a specific page or set of pages" selected, click on "Set Pages" and remove the crap ones.

Oh, and if it happens again, you need to find out if it's being set by malicious code from a website or adware/spyware/malware on your PC.

Can you describe what was in the "Rubbish" page?

It's difficult for us to diagnose if some overzealous mod removes it.

Hi and thanks for the reply - it was "... smileIM......"

I think it must be some kind of spyware.

I did find a youtube video saying how to remove it but that didn't work - the home page is fine but it's when I open a new tab it goes to this sweetIM thing.
