CHIANG MAI, Dec 7 -- Thailand's northern region has felt more pinch of cold spell as the temperature is forecast to drop 2-4 degree Celcius during the next 4-5 days.

Chiang Mai Governor Thanin Supasaen said Friday’s weather in Chiang Mai was cooler than the previous day, and the temperature was recorded lowest at 17.3 degree Celcius this morning.

The governor said he has instructed all districts to monitor situation and promptly provide assistance to the victims of cold weather. He said Omkoi district was seriously hit by the weather as the temperature has dropped to 15 degrees Celsius for the whole week.

The Northern Regional Meteorological Centre has announced that more fog would cover the northern provinces, temperature could drop to 15 degrees Celsius, and tomorrow through Wednesday, temperatures could fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Lampang Meteorological Station chief Thiwa Phanmaisi said that the temperature in the province dropped by more than three degrees Celsius, and stayed on average at 18-20 degrees Celsius.

He said thick fog during the early morning affected aircraft arrivals and departures at Lampang Airport, and forced a 70-seat Bangkok Airways flight to abort its landing at 8:15am due to poor visibility.

The Bangkok Airways flight was delayed for more than two hours.

Vehicles used their headlights and drivers took more care because of the thick fog. (MCOT online news)
