Building Materials/services In Chiang Rai

Hi there,

I would like to find out if there are any recommendations for places that sell building materials and/or provide reasonable building prices for building a home.

I will be in CR a couple of weeks from now and will be looking at spending some time hunting for building materials and helping the wife get the ball rolling during the time i'm there. I'm only looking at a very small and simple place for the in-laws and on a tight budget.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It's not as bad as it used to be, at least since I built my place using local labour, but I'd suggest your wife/father-in-law talks to a local builder.

Most of the fittings, tiles, doors, etc can be bought at the home centres with immovable price tags.

We said Scea. When we built our house the price tag of some goods actually dropped. I was present when purchases were made.

I have never experienced prices being adjusted on the spot due to being a farang. Sometimes, I find it a distinct advantage in the bargaining banter that is so common here. That said, often there is a very good reason one item is cheaper than another. You may very well get what you pay for.wink.png

Thanks a lot for the input. We will definitely look at consulting a local builder.

Any specific place/shop in the city where I can have a look around and get an idea of the prices? Would hope not to go in "blind".

Thanks.
