I want to double check some advice I have given a Thai man I know.

Seems he worked much of his adult life in the USA.

While there he let his Thai Passport expire.

When he retired he moved back to Thailand & entered on his

US passport. He has gone through the retirement visa with 90 day checks ever since.

He is a Thai citizen by birth & has now renewed his Thai passport.

I told him all he really needs to do is exit the country & re-enter on his Thai Passport.

I would imagine he need not bother with a re-entry permit.

That is correct yes?

If so what would be his easiest option if he lives in Bangkok.

Thank You for any help

I want to be sure not to advise him in the wrong direction

He needs to exit by air using the US passport and then enter adjacent country with Thai passport and return using Thai passport. Believe if he uses auto gate on return it is simple but if he can not he can explain not having normal TM.6 card by explaining he was on other passport before (but may have to have supervisor OK it). He does not want to let them insist he use foreign passport as he does not need to do so.

Thank You lopburi

I did not know he has to fly out. I guess that has to do with getting a TM6 card?

But why would he need to enter a neighboring country on the way back?

He cannot just return to Thailand?

Thanks again

I am about to go to dinner with him so will pass on this information

Normally a flight out lands somewhere so he enters that country and gets stamped out of that country for return. If both legs by air he might be able to return without actually entering other country but why chance it - he is there already. The issue is exit stamps as land borders will look for that stamp before stamping in so you can not change passports between them as you can by air.

The arrival/departure card (TM6) issue is that Thai obtain on exit of Thailand rather than on entry so will not have as exit was on foreign passport so may be asked why.
