Hi

A new friend at a bar informed me that it is possible to get a 1 year visa, only having to report to immigration every three months and being able to stay in the Kingdon for 1 year if you apply for a certain visa a show a thai bank account with a total of 3 million bht.

Is there any truth in this. If so where would you apply for the visa in your home country or in thailand.

Thank you for your help in advance

You must have evidence of transfer of at least 3 million Baht from abroad into Thailand. You obtain the Foreign Exchange Cert from the bank in Thailand as the evidence.

Deposit the money in a fixed account of a state bank (Krung Thai Bank, Government Savings Bank, Bank for Agriculture and Cooperative, Ratanasin Bank, Srinakhorn Bank, Nakhornluang Thai Bank, Housing Bank)

You can change a 60 day tourist visa( or other visa) into a non immigrant investment visa or you obtain a 90 day business visa at a Embassy/Consulate outside Thaiand and then do the extension here.

Our firm handles a number of these extension of stay permits every week.

Check out this page.

It looks as though you need 8 million now.

It is still 3 million Baht. They use to have a resident permit for 10 million but it’s now no longer offered.

Why don't they have the residency permit for 10 million no longer?

It was a special limited offer to help Thailand get back on its feet after 1998. The economy is doing better now.

What is the interest rate on those accounts?

1 year fixed term at Krung Thai Bank is 3% interest.

2 year is 3.75%

3 years is 4%
