Bird Flu Outbreaks

Featured Replies

The way this Bird Flu keeps cropping up in different places has me scratching my head.

It is supposedly being transmitted by migratory birds, which infect local fowl. Odd though that these migratory birds seem to bypass some areas and infect others. Perhaps some countries have been infected and they just don't know it, yet.

Odd that when the local fowl get infected, they start dropping like flies, yet the infected migratory birds seem to be able to fly around the world without being themselves affected. Whenever I hear of a Bird Flu case, it is usually because the local chickens start dying in large numbers.

I may be wrong, but the duck they found in France is the first migratory bird I've heard of being found to have the H5N1. There should be huge numbers of migratory birds dropping out of the skies from Asia to Europe, yet all we seem to hear about is local chickens and turkeys.

Are some birds immune to the effects of the disease they are carrying (kind of like Typhoid, where some people can be infected but not have symptoms, yet they can still infect everyone they come in contact with) ?

This thing started in Asia, and as many know, places like Thailand had to cull huge numbers of domestic birds to prevent it from spreading. I haven't heard of new cases of the flu being found in Thailand, but I think they are still finding human infections in Vietnam ? If they are still finding human infections, they must still have infected birds.

Will this cycle of infections start up again when those migratory birds return from infecting Asia and Europe ?

There is still sick birds and sick people here in Thailand. The failure to detain it after the men in charge said it was 'eradicated' is emberrasing, so they don't like to talk about it...
