The Hit And Run Restaurant "review" Thread

Wow, that Chinese place is interesting. I didn't eat there, but I will soon, at least to try the potstickers. They had food on sale from China too I believe, stuff like noodles and canned and bottled this and that.

On a side note, I found at least 10 interesting newish restaruants in that area, including a fairly new Northern Thai place!

I'm too tired now after a long walk, but I may give more details later.

Northern Thai as in Lanna not Isaan right? Where is it exactly? I agree that Chinese place looks promising. Maybe someday they'll spring for an English menu. Probably not.

Yes, as you say. I got kao soi and hanglay curry to go as I was not hungry at the time--they had many other interesting dishes, including kan toke (next time, if tonight's dinner is good). I'll be sure to report back on this place--good northern Thai is sorely needed in Pattaya.

Great but any clues on where it is? coffee1.gif

A clue would be very close to the Chinese restaurant! I'll give an exact location soon, after I eat. Oh, I took pictures of the menu in the Chinese restaurant, would those be of interest in this thread?

Edit: or I won't give a location if it's bad, then I'll send it in pm for confirmation of badness.

Sorry for the poor quality. I probably got the order wrong as well. Looks like I doubled a couple too.

The kao soi from the lanna place is excellent. The broth as good or better than I remember from the one on Third road up near South Pattaya Road that closed so quickly. I'm very excited. The curry was good too, but very fatty.

The restaurant is located on the west side of 3rd road opposite the soi with the Chinese restaurant, a bit more down (50 meters? 100?) towards Central Road. Here's a picture of the front of the restaurant--you can see the owner who said to me "if you like come back, if you don't, good luck" or something like that, seemed like a nice lady--lots of tempting treats there.

The Northern Thai place opened about 4 months ago, and was quite decent.

But the last two times I have tried to visit, its been closed.

Possibly done and dusted ?

I would guess it opens late-ish in the afternoon. My best guess is the huge new food ghetto in this area caters to the surrounding nightclubs, so the restaurants open late in the afternoon and close very very late. At least that's what I'm seems logical to me. I can say for certain the northern Thai place was open yesterday as the picture I took (last night at ~18:00) demonstrates.

If you pass through that area early in the afternoon, it looks dead, but it's just not open yet.

Ok, here's the story with the Kao Soi place as I went back and got some more food from her today. She opens 9 am and closes 6:30 pm. She said she doesn't like the late night drunken crown--she just wants to cook for people.

She recently was closed for 5 days when her boyfriend was here.

The Chinese place mentioned, off Third road, is doomed.

As you can see, the menu is not in English, however I don't hold that against them.

I ordered some dumplings and whatever is in that 260 Baht photo. The dumplings were fine(100 Baht) but only some Soi sauce provided. No minced garlic or pepper/oil as is more typical of Chinese restaurants. The 260 Baht dish, I dare to ask what it was. Might have been frog or something very small boned. Could not eat it and left most of it.

Beyond that, I ordered a coke and the glass of ice came about half full. I heard and looked, sure enough, the waiter was using his hand and collecting ice from a cooler which was basically full of water, I guess the ice came from the top?

The waiter was also ill, and didn't mind coughing without regard to being in a service position. Being sick sucks but please....

Overall, thanks for tempting me and this review provided as a public service message. It's strange there are no decent Chinese places in Pattaya, at least outside of those I assume which the tour groups go to.

2012 thread with 60 pages and 14000 posts, OK I will bite.

In case these have not been mentioned: Ala Tuca Turkish on 5th floor central, great food, service and decent prices, highly recommended.

Breezio at the Royal Cliff: incredible location and view, good food, decent prices, nice little day trip.

The Indian restaurant there is nice too but higher prices.

Sukushi, buffet or non buffet at central, there are two, good service, decent food, decent prices.

Of course The Place on Soi Bhokoa, near action street, great middle eastern food (thahini!), decent prices, fantastic home made french fires.

The hippo a tiny bit more pricey but excellent food and service at central beach side 6th floor.

The always hot always busy thai restaurant on soi Bhokao near oasis, any thai dish, decent prices. good food, late night too!

Coonum Jeen at south pattay thai near temple, and at soi bouykoa 7 day market.

Falafal at the corner or soi diana and bhokaow, if you like falafal you will not be disappointed, if you can, get the man to make it, it's an art.

Pretty cool all you can eat Arab place on 2nd road south of soi 15. I think only 200 baht however if you take away they raised the price. Great place for non thai flavors and spices.

(not sure if i am allowed to say this but i no longer eat at kiss, i can not recommend it, quality and service varies too much)

Remind me to read this entire thread!

HAPPY EATING AND FEEL FREE TO SEND SUGGESTIONS MY WAY.

Teaser, the page with the picture of the stir fry at 260 is Fried Chicken Papaya.

Good to hear its still open.

Yes, on my first visit, I was told that it was a lunchtime place (like the other Khao Soi places on 3rd Road), and thought she said it would close around 3pm.

Both my last two visits were at Midday and was disappointed to find it closed.

Thanks for the update.

The Kao Soi place is perfect for me.

Almost as good as the Kao Soi on 3rd road close to Tukcom, but this place I can reach by a very short walk.

The Kao Soi

Another place, I liked to go at, was the Casa On.

A Mexican restaurant at the East side of lake Maprachan.

But now:

It's still opened, but the quality of food abated a lot in my opinion. Maybe they don't buy enough ingredients anymore.

The tacos I loved before weren't tasty anymore.

The margarita was still huge, strong and tasty in by GF's opinion though.

I tried it and liked it and also tried two pot curries. Lovely. Where exactly is the place closer to Tukcom?

Here

The Kao Soi is usually just a very little better there, compared to my first visit at the other place.

However I'll prefer the other one in future, since it's just a stone throw away from my home.

I have been the other week to the Saturday buffet of the Sheraton Pattaya (near royal cliff). I used a discount from eatigo. 20% off. The place very nice and there is also a fire show. The food is also of high quality, but without the discount is 1399+ vat + service . Same price of the royal cliff that I think is better value for money. Anyway the buffet of the Sheraton is better than Hilton but more expensive. With the discount (if you go late you get more discount) I think is a good place to go sometime. I will go there again in the future. Also the service is really top notch. Next place in my list to try is the buffet at cape Dara.

You tried the Khao Soi at 'Reuan Khao Poon' on 3rd Road, a few doors up from the Buffalo Bar ?

I have, and I was not impressed. I really like the kao soi at the new place and I'll try the place next to Mike's next, though I've heard mixed reviews.

We ate here last night. 300B all you could eat buffet and it was very good. Can also buy very good wines by the glass. Great selection. I'm not normally a fan of buffets, but this one was very good.

I've been there a few times and it has been discussed in other threads on here.

The Sunday buffet is indeed pretty good (shame they dont do Yorkshire puddings with it) and the Friday all-you-can-eat mussels are also very good.

The owner also makes eating there a pleasure. Such a nice man. Always comes by to make sure you are OK, offering suggestions, etc. Very nice.

Aroi has been mentioned quite a bit in other threads - guv is a Belgian, and very hospitable. His tucker hits the mark every time - I've never had a bad meal there.

I agree with the thumbs up on Aroi. I don't go there nearly enough. A bit deterred currently by the destruction that's torn up Patanakarn Road, my route to get there. Only other route for me (from east Muslim Road area) is to go down to the RR, and deal with the cluster flick there before turning south. Just too much of a hassle either way right now, with so many good options closer to home.

Not yet. It's on my to-do list and I'll report then.
