Anyone ever tried this yet? I drank a couple of containers full of it last night along with a shedload of beers at a Happy New Year bash held in my lovely girlfriends village. I noticed a smell with the first shot of it, maybe similar to paint strimmer! After the first shot I lost all sense of smell anyway so it didn't matter much! Kept drinking it and several hours later, I can barely remember the short journey from the village to our house. It seemed to help me communicate in a much better way with the locals, it has to be said but did nothing for my powers of communication with my pals back home, although they found it very amusing that I was barely able to string a sentence together!

The first one was white, second one was yellow, after that, I have no idea....Just curious if any other members here have tried drinking this stuff??? I got kissed by many lovelies during the night and became lifelong buddies with half my girlfriends "brothers" mates and an enjoyable night was had by all as far as I can tell. Looks like we are set to do it all again today, I am presently warming up with a bottle of Samsong, got to love the thai New Year in Isaan! First one for me and thriving on it in a big way....So any news on Lao toot? Curious to know what the hell I drank last night! :)

Well, have to be honest, that's a new one on me, I suspect that a local may have been playing a little linguistic joke.

When you say that the first one was white, do you mean white like milk or clear?

To make a drink yellow, it is quite common to add snake bile to it.

Never heard of toot, don't know what toot means. The stuff you were drinking sounds like Lao Kow [whiskey rice ] Have had a few sessions on it over the years, but you get on god awful hang over and the smell and taste lingers on for days.

Samsong may taste better, but it's bad stuff, contains a natural amphetamine. You think you are sober, but are blind drunk. Have a good session on it and you can hallucinate.

Happy new year, think I will stick to beer today. Jim

@Thaddeus - Thanks for your reply. Yeah the first one was the colour of milk, not clear! Second one was bright yellow! I have woken the girlfriend from her slumber to question further on the name but still no clearer, best I can get is Lao Toot!!!

@James - Thanks for your reply. Yeah I asked them if it was Lao Kow as I am familiar with it! But they said definitely not although it is rice whisky of some sort. Sangsom yes, know exactly what you mean but still have a blast drinking the stuff! :)

Happy New Year to you both!

Jim, on reflection, that is probably the best description of Samsong, I have ever heard! Could be why I like it! ;) As for the Lao Toot or whatever it is called, i'll take some pics if there is more tonight and see if it's identifiable! Good luck with the rubber in 2013. Dan

In that case it sounds like sah-toh, the home made stuff can be very potent, it gets your legs drunk first.

The name they are using may be a regional thing.

And snake bile would make the white stuff bright yellow.

Thaddeus - Yes you are 100% correct. After some cross examination upon exit from the shower my lovely lady confirms that yes it is sometimes called Sah-Toh! I definitely had jelly legs after a while last night! I will find out about the snake bile element! Thanks alot for solving my mysterious drink equation! Dan

Or pee in it. biggrin.png

Lao Toot would be Ass from Laos. Sa- Toh is young rice wine, just in the process of getting more alcohol through adding sticky rice and sugar.

Mother in law makes the best one!

It's illegal, because the fools don't get taxes for it. It's healthy and really good. Not like Lao khao. Cheers-coffee1.gif

Better dinker than me, had to help the sub Gov.. to be tied down. bigger man than me. He was drinking some local or maybe Chinese stuff not sure.

Been pissed and falling down drunk in my life, but some off the local booze has a bit more to it. Jim

Snake bile? More likely benzine 91.

Nah, they wouldn't do that, you can't run a Honda Wave on snake bile.

Chatting with some Thai friends yesterday, they reached a conclusion that sah-toh can make some people gassy, so fart whiskey it is.

I drank some homemade hootch one day. They take lau kow and add wood chips and let it soak for 1 day. Gives it a brownish tint. The following day we drank the same stuff but was store bought. I'll ask the name. Kinda sounds like the same stuff.

Blend is the village favorite where I'm at.

Yep! Must be Ya Dong. It disappeared from all shops around a year ago. They usually put some Chinese herbs in it. Cops do not allow them to sell it anymore, just don't know why.
