Ma Applied Linguistics Tesol

Featured Replies

Currently working at an international school in Saudi Arabia , not a lot to do here so I'm thinking about doing some further study while I'm here. Looking at MA in TESOL . Going to be doing it online ( University of Manchester possibly ) although the certificate will look the same as an on-campus degree .What kind of jobs would that get you in Thailand ? Do places recognise online degrees ? I guess that I would get a lot better paying jobs in the ME . am I right ?

tnx fyt .

If you are fully qualified teacher with a teacher's license from your home country, you would be eligible to teach in an international school.

If you have a BA/BS degree, with some experience you can start at 35,000 Baht per month ++.

Good luck with what you are doing. Working in Saudi and living in a dull compound is an ideal opportunity for you to enhance your qualifications.

I did my dual MA with the University of Leicester...........TESOL and Applied Linguistics. Same as campus course and even within the transcripts, there is no mention of any distance-learning or online element. Therefore, the question of 'online or campus' has never arisen. I simply hand them my original degree, apostille certificate and transcripts.

What are your current qualifications? You home country qualified or working as an EAL specialist?

The money is still better in the ME. I live in Bangkok but I work in Qatar. Have been offered a really good position at Harrow in BKK but then I look at the salaries.............Harrow pays very well but then Qatar pays even higher and of course, it's all tax-free.

So at this moment in time.............I'm staying in the ME and banking as much as I can.

Good luck with whatever path you choose.

I was looking at Leicester as well , that very same course . I have a degree ( non-related ) , a TESOL certificate and 6 years experience . I've heard back from some of the Universities I contacted and they all seemed to think I would be okay for the course.

Not really considering going back to Thailand but I was wondering about the future if my wife wanted to go back at some point . I don't want to go there for crappy money. After Saudi I don't think I could do that.

I figure that what with there not being much to do here it would be a perfect time to get my head down and study.
