A friend of mine has been suffering suddenly from acne for the past 12 months, she is 31 and she had absolutely faultless skin prior to that.

I told her that its probably a hormone imbalance as that was the cause of my acne in my teens and early twenties.

Clearly i am no doctor, but i want her to visit a dermatologist who will give her the right diognosis and not fob her off with some cream, lotion, or laser treatment.

Does anyone know of such a skin hospital or dermatologist that has still their professional ethics in-tacked and not just sniffing out the next fast buck?

Thanks

Any regular dermatologist (as opposed to ones specializing in cosmetic dermatology) at any main hospital should do.

Has she by any chance gone on or off hormonal contraceptives (pills or injections)around the time this started? Or any stress/trouble sleeping?

No Sheryl, no sudden changes of that nature.

She has given much thought to any changes that might have taken place, like use of new cosmetics etc.

But she assures me nothing untoward took place or changed!

So just to conclude this topic.

Went to the skin centre at Bangkok Hopital in Bangkok.

The Doctor was quick to prescribe anti biotic not lotions or creams as the major remedial solution.

This is what I hoped would happen.

Never the less the Doctor could not resist adding 6 more lotions and cream to the prescription which she did not discuss during the consultancy!

At the cashier/pharmacy i refused to take the 'add on' items and said i would pay only for the anti biotics and vitamin A cream.

After the pharmacist consulted the Doctor, they revised the invoice and i paided only for what i needed.

Doc prescribed 8 items from the pharmacy, what i actually needed was 2 items and i saved 50% on the final bill by refusing to take the items not discussed or agreed upon during consultancy.

In the end then i got a Doctor who had profession ethics at her core, but just could not resist bumping up the bill to help contibute towards her next Rolex.

Stay smart out there people!

I have a couple of irregularities on my skin that I'd like checked out by a dermatologist. Neither bother me but I'd like to rule out anything cancerous. It's just ok then to walk into Bangkok hospital and hope to see an English speaking doctor?

It is never advisable to just walk into a hospital and see just any doctor. Especially if the issue is possible skin cancer, which most Thai dermatologists have little experience with. . You need to take the time to select a doctor who is familiar with western skin and skin cancers. There have been several recommended on this board, try the search function, or else look at the doctor's qualifications and select one who trained in the west and whose area of clinical; interest is NOT cosmetic.

For those of white skin BCC and SCC cancers most doctors here will not have much first hand experience unless they have practiced in western countries so believe this specialty is worth appointment with the best qualified in whatever facility you use (or if a recommended doctor go to the facility they practice). Some, many, hospitals do not even offer basic cryotherapy as they are set up for cosmetic rather than pre-cancer treatment.
