Thailand Ranks Rather Poorly On Economist Best/worst Countries To Be Born In Study

Recommended Posts

So which are the "best" and "worst" countries to born in today as far as future prospects?

This Economist Intelligence Unit study takes a stab at answering that question.

Thailand is rated not among the most horrible, but still firmly in the poorly rated category.

http://www.washingto...orn-into-today/

I guess many would expect CHINA to be rated higher but it isn't. It is rated like Thailand.

But both better off than being born in RUSSIA today.

Well now you can look at the map yourself. Compare and contrast if you like.

"The best countries to be born in are small, peaceful, homogenous, liberal democracies."

Those of us who aren't liberals might not agree. This is the most slanted survey of the day.

Not sure if you're serious but the study is about “which country will provide the best opportunities for a healthy, safe and prosperous life in the years ahead,” not petty partisan politics and labels.

Thailand has a lower suicide rate than the top three countries despite having a much worse economy. Makes me wonder the value of these studies.

Two points. It's projecting for the FUTURE of a baby born today. Secondly, who actually trusts statistics coming out of Thailand?

In the West, working is completely optional. The government will take care of you from birth to death.

Again with the ideology.coffee1.gif Bottom line if it was YOU choosing where to be born today: New Zealand or Russia? Norway or Ukraine? Canada or Nigeria?

Maybe but look at gun crime, would you rather choose to die yourself or let someone here choose for you?

In the US in 2010, "someone died in a house fire every 169 minutes." (You'd think that dumb bastard would learn after a while, wunnt ya?) :)

In addition to the 2,600+ killed, another 13,000+ were injured. With 384,000 home fires in one year alone and almost 20,000 killed or injured,

I don't dare stay home. :)

Really 'Neversure' are you really that bloody dense that when you see the world "liberal' used in the context of liberal democracy that you interpret it as some sort of leftist pinko commo system of running a government?

I mean, how did you get this far in life without poking your eye out with a fork at every meal?

:) Nice one.

It is amazing, isn't it?

I also love the way he laments the politicians making Mom go out to work (instead of staying home as god intended).

Just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading it.

You did NOT...

In fact, the article in the Washington Post comes originally from a study by The Economist, one of the most influential and serious quality news sources in the world.

They published an article, called:

The lottery of life

Where to be born in 2013*

* http://www.economist.com/news/21566430-where-be-born-2013-lottery-life

But, I understand, not everybody is interested in serious reading; some members are more interested in rubbish about Pattaya and other "exciting" Thai destinations tongue.png

I can see why some people are upset. Canada beat the USA :P

It would only upset someone childish and/or nationalistic enough to see it as some sort of competition.

How's that shoe fit? :)

You have to define and prioritize your "opportunities." Do I want the "opportunity" to live in a nanny state? No. Do I want the "opportunity" to work my butt off and pick up the tab for slackers? No. Do I want the "opportunity" to get the chit taxed out of me? No. Do I want the "opportunity" to have costs in the form of excessive import duties and VATs added to everything I buy? No Do I want the "opportunity" to pay half of all I earn in taxes of one form or the other? No.

Do I want the "opportunity" to keep what I earn, and the "opportunity" to do more of what I want to do without being told by "the group?" Yes. Do I want small government that leaves me the hell alone as long as I'm not infringing on someone else's life? Yes.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the

most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the hell happened? Can you spell ‘politicians?’"

- Unkown.

I personally rather enjoy the opportunity to work anywhere in the world, thanks to an excellent education and well-established multilateral diplomatic links. I don't think I would swap that for the freedom to work in a paddy field. And I am happy to sacrifice the right to wear carpet slippers and go bare-headed when I'm on a construction site,

Personally, I blame the old fellas that voted for the politicians that they now complain about.

I read the article in The Economist some time ago and I was neither the least bit surprised or upset that Canada ranked higher than (or "beat" for some people) the US. So where must I be from?

(Even if I took the article as the gospel, my feelings wouldn't be any different)

Some here don't take the time to read what this study by "...the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a sister company of The Economist..." is all about...

"A quarter of a century ago, when The World in 1988 light-heartedly ranked 50 countries according to where would be the best place to be born in 1988, America indeed came top."

"But which country will be the best for a baby born in 2013?"
