Hi, where's a good place to buy a quality backpack in Chiang Mai?

P.S. Also loooking for a cheap used acoustic if you know a shop?

I've got a Lowe Alpine, 60 + 10L, cool air back system, etc.

I always end up using suitcases, so it's sat getting lonely.

PM me if you are interested!

The sports-shop at Central Kad Suan Kaew, perhaps ?

They have a surprisingly good selection of Osprey packs. Genuine Osprey packs. I own 2 purchased in the US so I know the materials and build quality. These are the real deal. The store had a huge selection, but in mid Dec about half the stock disappeared and the space was filled with cheap packs. Was there just before Xmas, they still had a good selection of everything from daypacks to expedition size.

There is a new small Backpack shop that opened in Kad Suan Kaew on the same floor

as DQ...2nd or 3rd?

They are right by the side entrance to Central/Robinson type large store.

The entrance that takes you into their automotive section & their restrooms

I was in there & was amazed at the quality of the bags.

Very nice 2 bar system that keeps the pack from being directly on your back.

Also had a mesh hammock system for those who ride bike to keep it off their back & keep their back cool.

I forget the brand name but it started with a D I am pretty sure.

The shop sells all kinds of packs & sizes + water bottle systems too & a couple bikes.

Edit: I remember the brand now Deuter not cheap but you can tell it is top quality

On the packs I looked at their lack of reinforcement at stress points and the number of stitches per inch said not top quality. Certainly much better than the craptacular stuff most vendors sell.

I am surprised as I thought they were really well made.

But I am not experienced with packs. As I only use smaller ones for motorcyling

I see REI sells them & has some good videos on them too.

Happened to be at the mall today. Went to the sports shop to see if they still had substantial stock of Osprey packs. They do:

Perhaps I was too literal in responding to your phrase 'top quality'. Between many years of rock and mountain climbing I became familiar and purchased packs, tents and clothes made by companies that knew if their products failed in the field it could compromise the user's safety. That's my idea of top quality.
