Motorbike Rental Scam Ramping Up?

Featured Replies

The last few days in Pattaya I have seen several confrontations at the motorbike rental places at Beach Road Soi 13/2.

Arguments about 'damages' on returning rental bikes.

There are also quite a few internet reports about the rental motorbikes being 'stolen' from the tourists at their hotels while they sleep.

The tourists are then charged full price for the 'lost' motorbike. Follow up reports claim the 'stolen' bike is then later seen back in service at the rental place.

Now that the jet ski scammer gangs are being watched, are they targeting more tourists that rent motorbikes to replace the lost income?

You didn't happen to see a Russian guy returning a blue & white Suzuki GSXR750 and arguing that the damage to the bike and crash helmet was already there ?

Never leave your passport and take photos of existing damage. The lady at Family Mart bottom of Klang is honest and always returns 1k deposit.

I don't even venture much to beach rd these days. Certainly wouldn't rent anything there.

saw an argument on 13/3 a few days ago, verging on violence so didnt stay to watch, and there is no slow down on the jetski scam

After reading some motorbike scam reports on the web, it is widely speculated the police own the beach road motorbike rental businesses that are set up on the street/public property.

They rent motorbikes to foreigners without a valid driving permit, set up roadblocks to ticket them, then steal them or falsely claim damages.

Is that what's going on here?
