Definition Of 'gig'

now this word "gig" is a very strange concept to me, my thai friends have explained it to me as, when you are more than just friends with a boy/girl but your not boyfriend and girlfriend, and that you can have multiple "gigs". My response was, 'like a f***buddy ?' in which i had to explain that concept, and they said they were nothing alike, it got me confused.

then there was this readers essay in stickman,

which sounds like a load of crap to me, where the hel_l did this person got their statistics from..!

if anyone could help clarify the definition of 'gig' i would be greatful

Simply, I'd say, someone who is more than a friend, but not necessarily a sexual partner. It often is though.
