Med History

Featured Replies

Yes i know this may be moved but wanted a bit of exposure first

Been thinking since I`ve now been in thailand for 5 years now (still work abroad)

As the title mentions Medical History is it possible for a Thai Instatute or Doctor to gain background info on you by giving your passport credentials or the need be if you are incapable of assisting

I do know in my own country of origin that you sign the form so they can check so the whole receptionast area & everyone else knows your back ground

If you want your medical history known here you would need to bring a copy with you from your home country.

Understood you want more exposure, but the experts in this field normally only peruse the health forum. So I think it's best to move it over there.

I'm not entirely sure I understand y=the question.

Are you asking whether or not, given only your passport details, a Thai doctor or facility would be able to access your prior medical history the answer is no.

They will have access only to such medical information as is on file with them already from any prior visits....or to records from other hospitals that you arrange to transfer to them.

If there are significant things in your medical history that you would eant to be sure were known you should (1) write it down 2) keep a copy in your wallet and 3) leave a copy with whomever would be your emergency contact person.

OK thanks for the replies & all good

It was just that as we get older we could end up having more complications & as you know most of us work abroed untill retirement where most of our medical treatments might be diagnosed & cured

thanks

I might add that Thai doctors tend as a rule not to look much at past medical history (even when it is in the chart in front of them) nor even in many cases to ask enough questions (medications, allergies, chronic conditions etc)...very different from the West where history taking is stressed.

So it is necessary here to be quite proactive in making sure that any and all relevant information is obtained by the doctor. I often type out the key things (current medications, past medical history, allergies, current complain etc) and hand it to the nurse to give the doctor before each visits just to be sure,.
