Hi

It is my impression that Thai doctors seem to prescribe more medicine that their counterparts in Scandinavia. Have you noticed this too or is it only an issue when using private hospitals?

It is absolutely true and a very prevalent part of Thai medical culture.

there is also a widespread perception on the part of the public that getting many medications = good care. In order not to "disappoint" patients doctors will prescribe as many different things as they can. So virtually every visit will result in paracetemol plus a vitamin plus whatever was actually needed.
