Barber Shop

Featured Replies

I've always hated getting a haircut. The problem is that I'm too shy to just walk into the shop and ask for a haircut.

On Saturday I spent about an hour on my bike making circuits of the barber shops near where I live and I never worked up the courage to walk in to any of them.

Same thing Sunday.

Today I managed to get in. Of course, the problem is worse here in Thailand because I'm too dumb to learn Thai and to shy to actually speak what I know. So, I generally just sit down in silence and hope for the best.

The results have been less than satisfactory.

Last month the barber did a fine job of trimming, but left the top of my head untouched.

Today, the same thing happened. This even though I held up a hank of hair from the top of my head, made cutting motions near the middle of the hank and said "dtot san". After that she never touched the hair on top of my head.

When I got home I grabbed some scissors and cut great swatches of hair from my head. It's a hatchet job, but at least it feels better.

So, what I need is a simple, easy to pronounce phrase in Thai that means something like "I need you to cut all the hair on my head, not just the sides."

Any suggestions?

solution is

1 go to the barber shop with your wife, and lets she explains to the guy

2 change the barber shop

"I need you to cut all the hair on my head, not just the sides."

= phom dtong garn thee ja tud phom thung hau , mai chai kae khang khang

ผมต้องการตัดผมทั้งหัว ไม่ใช่แค่ข้างๆ

but just beware .. tell him(stress) , " kae tud mai chai gorne" แค่ตัดไม่ใช่โกน = just trim/cut not shave

goodluck mikey :o

I had a haircut in Pattaya once...the guy did a half hearted job then said....OK??

I just told him that the girls would say ok or not.....he spent another ten minutes doing a proper job :o

or show the model guy's foto /picture about his hair style for the hairdresser (but dont expect that u will have same style..coz have many conditions about it as your hair texure, your skull's shape ..ect)

Easy solution, buy a set of hair clippers and either do a grade 1 or 2 all over, or get the wife the cut your hair for you. As long as it isnt a complicated style and just a short back and sides anyone can use a set of clippers to achieve this effect.

I have saved a fortune, for the last 15 years i have had a skinhead. Cost of decent set of clippers £30 hair cut twice a month. Cost of hair cut in the U.K about £7 so a total saving of £2010 over 15 years, as i have 3 sets of clippers in this time. Not a bad little saving really :o

My wife cut out a picture from a magazine and gave it to the hairdresser. Nevermind my opinion on the matter, huh? :o

I have printed out Bambina's Thai sentence and plan to present it next time I need a haircut. (Note to Bambina: If it really says, "How much for a blow job?", you're in big trouble.)

dood joo tao rai? khun ja me pun ha yai

how much for suck my willy ? u will get a big prob ..!! :o:D

Another easy solution:

Just shave the head - it's 'in' now anyway & besides,

it's hot in Thailand.

Easier to get rid of the ticks and fleas too !

(I noticed the people in my building are constantly checking their kids heads for ticks and fleas. The kids often play with the soi dogs in the neighbourhood, most of which are mobile tick and flea farms)

I have a crewcut, easy to maintain in this weather, and less chance of getting a sunburn on my noggin :o

I always try to get crewcut (like I always got backhome from me, myself and the shawer...or with brothers help), but seems to be over-ruled by the 'woman that decides things' in my house. :|

You've got problems, buadhai.

How have you survived so far?

Saving the effort of long-term psychotherapy, I suggest a few Changs and a quick chew of a betelnut, and on your way to the barber's shop - explaining exactly how you want your hair done.

That should break the mould...
