Hi everyone,

Can you recommend a good hospital in Bangkok where I can perform Spine and Legs MRI for reasonable price (no local insurance). Delays for such exams are insane in europe so I am planning to travel to BK to do it there and enjoy a few beers in the process ;)

Thank you !

Thats a fortune... I was hoping to find MRIs for less than 5000 bahts in Thailand.... seems like I was dreaming ! Maybe I'll do it in India then

Yes, dreaming. Not 5,000 baht anywhere in Thailand except maybe tertiary govt hospitals and there the wait list is so long most people end up paying for private anyhow.

Is it seriously just 5,000 baht in India for a quality film? (There are MRI outfits that generate films of such poor quality/small size that any specialist is going to have to ask you to get them redone)....?

Yes, India or closer Malaysia. In 2011 when I priced brain MRI with contrast equivalent private hospitals in KUL or Penang they were half that of Bangkok.

Thailand has priced itself out of my budget. Try a public hospital? You can always pay another MD or two for interpretation no? I actually contacted a service in India for an online remote interpretation. But they work onlybwholesale, referred by Indian doctors. Hey, Indian customer service staff work from Bangalore, why not MDs? In fact this is a business model I'd like to see someone develop, at something closer to local Indian prices - image interpretation.

You can't get an MRI etc on demand at a govt hospital. Have to run a set if hurdles first starting with screening by a medical student or intern and then (often several visits later) with a specialist to get it ordered.

And then there is often a long wait to get the scan done.

Many patients in giovernment hospitals end up paying out of pocket to get an MRI or CT done privately for this reason.

Interesting to hear about Malaysia, would you mind sharing the names of the hospitals you priced there esp. Penang?

Unless talking about government insurance there is a fairly high fee even in a government hospital for MRI. Wife had at Chula in 1999 and again in 2001 and fee was 10,000 baht each time.

I had one a couple of years ago in Bangkok, cost me around the 10, 000 mark for a lower spine scan. Doc at Vibhavadee hospital saw me then I went to the scanning place the next day, waited an hour afterwards and got the results in my hand to take back to the doc.

I do not recall hospital's name. I see a specialist for over an one hour at Pantai Cheras outside of Kuala Lumpur for THB450. Maybe imaging will be similarly good value.

Just go to India, latest MRI imaging machinery for the asking, cheap pricing too,$75 for knee scan ,doc there to explain, then surgery next day. India has joined the medical tourism in a big way, better to go to recommended GP there and let him sort out the costing and procedure. Flights to India start at 6000 baht return.

I'm aware of enlarged prostate,,let them whack the camera up the backside for about $50,look-see if there is any cancer,I can put up with the problems associated with enlargement but God the camera shoving bit hurts. Bowel cancer scan for about $50,cutting out growths about $18

Had all the above a few years ago. Whole body scan with the Siemens Megaton imagining was about $250

Rupee pricing to the pound is fantastic too, about 82 to the £,was 69 when I had it done Yes off there in two weeks time, good place to get cotton shirts made to measure
