City Councilman Criticizes Wasteful Security Spending
PATTAYA:--A city councilman is fuming over expensive security projects that he says are not showing results. At a council meeting, he asked why a newly-purchased fleet of cars is sitting idle, and why volunteer security officers seem unprofessional, despite expensive training programs.

PATTAYA – February 28, 2013 [PDN]; At a recent City Council meeting, Pattaya’s chief of security, Mr. Theerasak Jatuphong, was harshly grilled about expensive funding projects in his department. The hostile questioning was led by Mr. Sanit Boonmachai, Deputy Chairman of the Pattaya Council.

The meeting by the Policy Committee was to monitor the results of the expense budget for the year, according to the city’s development strategy. Council Chairman Mr. Thawit Chaisawangwong conducted the meeting, attended by representatives of related organizations.

Mr. Sanit pointedly asked Mr. Theerasak about the usefulness that people will receive from the 10 security projects being funded by the city, which includes developing the quality of the city security system, buying new equipment for the municipal division, and funding training programs for Civil Defense Volunteers.

Mr. Sanit said the city has invested a lot of money to buy equipment for the security officers to take care of people. The city purchased many new cars for the security department, yet many of the cars are not being used. There is also a lot of other new equipment not ready to be used, so it appears the city has wasted its money, he said.

50 cars, with deteriorated batteries? Come on now, how can that be possible? How long ago were they bought?

Don't know, but imagine the amount of money the person in charge of acquiring these cars got under the table from the dealer. rolleyes.gif
