Oscars For Osama

"Nothing tells you more about Hollywood than what it chooses to honor. Nominated for best foreign-language film is “Paradise Now,” a sympathetic portrayal of two suicide bombers. Nominated for best picture is “Munich,” a sympathetic portrayal of yesterday’s fashion in barbarism: homicide terrorism."

"But until you see “Syriana,” nominated for best screenplay (and George Clooney, for best supporting actor) you have no idea how self-flagellation and self-loathing pass for complexity and moral seriousness in Hollywood."

As usual, Cox & Forkum hits the target with this drawing that is not funny. It is too close to the truth as shown by this quote from an article in the Washington Post by Charles Krauthammer entitled Oscars For Osama".

In the category of The People’s Vote For Best Picture (boxoffice sales), “March Of The Penguins”, which won the award for Best Documentary outgrossed all five of the nominees for Best Picture.

Imagine that... :o

Can't be those Jooos, again, can it?

The day I'm threatened by a movie is the day I realize I'm taking things way too seriously.

Well, boys, no one is being 'threatened' here.

Point I'm trying to get across is Hollywood used to make pro-western movies during times of War. Not so now.

Recall some years back when 'Little Drummer Girl' came out?

Probably the last movie to accurately depict the Terror situation, eh? :o

p.s. For example: The movie for which Clooney received an award, Syrianna, isn't out of touch with America because it is morally superior; it is out of touch because it is mind-numbingly dumb. A film that takes the position that suicide bombers are good, America is controlled by corrupt oilmen, and the United States is the force that stands in the way of Middle Eastern democracy, isn't just out of touch with America. It's out of touch with reality. And this is the kind of crap that garners an Oscar??? :D

Actually, Boon Mee is everything that is good about America.

He is good, kind, honorable, optimistic and committed and he feels like most Americans are just like he is and are trying to do the right thing.

Moaning, cynical Euro-weenies just don't get that. :o

Cheers Ulysses...

It's not just cynical Euro-weenies but the so-called 'Hip' Left that thinks anything goes.

Take the Taliban spokesman who is now a student at Yale University. This creep used to shill for torturers and Buddha-image destroyers and is now attending one of the Ivy League schools sitting alongside apologists who say 'we have to try to understand them' :D

The cynical, Euro-weenie guy in the cowboy hat is lamphun.

He is smiling because he just took a trip with Butterfly down the old Hershey trail :D

No closet for Butterfly and his ladyboys! :D

I think the give-a-way to Ulysses G. and Boon Mee's credibility is that they have to insult anybody and everybody that doesn't agree with their far-right ideas ie. Euro-weenies.

And Butterfly, before you jump in feet first, you are the same as Boon Mee, just the flip side of the coin.

Actually, you are very wrong.

Boon Mee didn't insult anyone when he first started posting, but after being attacked repeatedly, started striking back. This has taken place over a period of years.

By the way, the fact that you labeled him "two-dimensional" means that you really don't know much about him or his posts and that you have just as little credibility, are just as full of sh*t and are just as "insulting" as the rest of us. :o

Mr. Holier-than-thou's true colors come out.

Can you spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E? :o

What the <deleted> are you on about?

Let's hear it for anyone out there brave enough to defend any of the crap movies that were nominated or won an Oscar, eh? :o

Not easy to defend when we haven't seen any of the movies (am Thailand based).

Have YOU seen any of them, be honest now Boon Mee.

They are available at the video store in the parking lot of DK books in Chiang Mai.

I have them all sitting on my desk.

Brokeback Mountain was actually good if you ignore the fact that they both act in a total hetrosexual manner at all times, during their whole lives, except when they are groping, grabbing, sucking, shagging and rimming each other on the mountain.

It didn't seem very realistic, but it was still sad when the quiet cow-homo finds out the other cow-homo is dead! :o

The notable thing about the oscars this year was that most of the movies were independants, not from the Hollywood majors. That may say something about "the independant view".

Well, from a one-dimensional viewpoint here...saw Brokeback & Munich.

Don't believe I'll waste time or money on any of the rest other than perhaps Crash..

Back to the main point though - why does Hollywood produce these movies sympathetic to terrorists and their appeasiers? :o

Anychance that if we are discussing movies we could have some spoiler warnings first. :o

Hey dude, I am just feeding the trolls.

I really don't care of what they think or believe, it's all trash anyhow.

I am just feeding the monkeys, I am the Zoo keeper :o

I can assure you that the general tenor of Brokeback was very realistic for the era it was set in both in the US and in the UK.

Brokeback public

In a bid to socially engineer civilization in the interest of 1% of the population, a completely oversold movie about bisexual sheep herders cheating on a spouse does less than 1/4th the business as a movie about universal virtues. All I can think about is a phrase in a column by William Safire On Language:

"The trick to assertive deflection is in the ducking of a question that sounds forthright."

BOHICA :o
