Finding trousers that fit is EXTREMELY difficult among any slacks/jeans made for local market. It's difficult enough in Canada. Everything except THB1800 John Henry slacks at Robinsons are built for skinny teenagers wanting to show off the family jewels. I am an old man. I like my pants cut like 1930s -- full. If we have to wear pants instead of sarongs they might as well be comfortable. OK, sarongs are too restricting--dhotis.

Any suggestion where to buy good value roomy pants? It's not like all Thais are 21 and 50 kilos. I see plenty of big fat Thai men in their fifties. Where do they buy their pants? They are not all rich men.

Head off to Klong Thom (sp?) market in Chinatown on the weekend. They have quite a few kiosks selling what I figure are used or factory reject Dockers and other brands in oddball sizes. They're scattered up and down the sois and around the edges of the inside of the market. I buy lots of them for work clothes because they're cheaper (150-250 baht) than buying regular work clothes. One day in the field and they're ruined for any other use so I don't mind that they're factory rejects.

Can't say they have much selection larger than 42 waist, but they may. I have no problem picking up 36, my size.

FYI, I think the Chinatown market is much more interesting than Chatuchuk because it's a genuine street market aimed mostly at locals and not so much at tourists. And it is huge if you look at all the sois involved.

Fifth floor (I think!?) of MBK there are a couple of outlets that carry larger sizes. The prices are vey reasonable. I purchased a pair of quite roomy cotton long pants from a stall in Sukhumvit (between Robinson and Soi 3) for 200 baht last week. One size fits all, very comfortable too.

Bo Bae Market. (More of wholesale market, lot size of 12)

Pratunam Market/Platinum Fashion Mall.

There are some plus size clothing stores in MBK.

If you are adventurous, and currently have a pair that you like, you could go to Pahurat and buy material, then look for a tailor's job-shop where they can make exact replicas from your sample.

Pays ya money take ya choice - Marks & Spencers in most of the Central Malls has decent stuff not cheap though but look out for promotions then the price is kind of in line with what you'd pay in the west
