I have been having problems with my calf lately. I was in Canada and saw the doctors and they took blood tests to look for a clot and also did ultra-sound for circulation and found that both were fine. The next step was to see a specialist leg surgeon however there was a 4 to 6 month waiting period. They did however say that in the mean time that massages might help. Well now I'm back in Thailand and want to know if anyone knows a good legitimate masseur that would know about this and also me neck has been stiff for ages.

I don't normally like Thai massages really but if there is a place that has a good understanding of what I need I would appreciate any direction. Thank you in advance. BPH recommended that I go in and see an orthopaedic surgeon, your thoughts?

I always use Thai Blind Massage Institute.

One of the blind masseurs there is the best there might be..

Even without telling him, he feels every hiccup in your muscles.

To avoid that he gets to many bookings, just PM me and I give you his name.

In general, most of the around 20 staff are skillfull, but he is the best..

Forget the "hello massage" girls. Go see a boxing/sports masseur at the boxing stadiums. They understand the internal.

I forgot the "hello massage" girls 13 years ago hence my pos here. Your suggestion is a good one if you could elaborate on which one, names etc please.

Another good suggestion and I will pm you however it might also benefit other users here to post on the forum unless it goes against the TV Forum rules. Mods, your feedback please?

Have you thought about having a doctor at PIH look at the issues? He/she can determine the nature of the problems, rule out anything serious, and give some options. It may well be that physical therapy would be more appropriate than massage.

I see your point, but the fact is that many regulars know his qualities, it leads to "waiting lists for his admirers, and in general, most of the others are well trained anyway..

Actually I will go into BPT tomorrow and see a doctor about it. In Canada they already did the blood test for clots and nothing and also the ultra sound for circulation and again nothing although I did say that in my OP lol.

I appreciate the advice mate. It was the Canadian doctors that have the long waiting list hence why I am here looking and as I said they also recommended massage.

Had a serious problem with my right foot..

Went to Bungrungrad in Bkk after checking their website and the qualities of their specialist doctors...

After x-rays showed indeed serious problems, the excellent doctor recommend first the use of a foot-logopodists treatment before maybe an operation in a few years time...

Sure BPH would have recommended surgery right away....

Maybe best to move this to the Health Forum for some wider and maybe different thoughts on the problem

If I understand correctly the docs in Canada, having ruled out a clot, recommended that you see aspecialist. If so, then that is what you should do first. If you can get copies of test results & doctor's recommendation from Canada it would help.

Calf is not a common site for ortho problems so I am not sure that what they were recommending was an ortho as opposed to say a vascular specialist? Calf pain when not due to clots is often due to peripheral arterial disease. This is especially likely if the pain tends to occur when walking or exercising and improves with rest. If so this requires an entirely different type of specialist than an orthopedic problem would.

If you can clarify what type of specialist you were advised to see, I can recommend one. Or if you can't, perhaps read the following link and advise if it sounds similar to what you have, then ditto:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001223/

Symptoms of peripheral arterial disease probably would improve with massage whereas a bone problem would not (and might even worsen). For genuine therapeutic massages, I'd advise the nearest government hospital or health center ("suan animi"), they usually have a massuese who is properly trained and used to treating people with physical ailments as opposed to people just wanting relaxation or the (ahem) other.

Thanks Rimmer for moving this however I thought I could take care of this here in Pattaya. Thing is Sheryl always has good direction so thanks again.

Sheryl:

It does seem that I have a lot of these symptoms but would the doctors in Canada not have noticed this when they did the Ultra Sound? Maybe not. I do have type 1 Diabetes, I smoke and I had a small stroke back in August 2012. I do look after my diabetes fairly well and eat decent (no high cholesterol) etc but maybe a visit to Bkk might be a good idea.

I didn't get any letters from the Canuk Doctors but it was pretty strait forward, they said there was no clots and that my circulation was good. It was Bkk Pattaya Hospital who suggested I go in and see an Orthopaedic Doctor and I just don't think that is correct.

I used to know Bkk quite well but open to suggestions where to go? Maybe Payathai 1 or 2? Maybe the one the King is in? I forget the name.

As you saw from another post of mine I also want to look into nose reduction surgery but that Yanee (or whatever) came back with a price of 120k. I think that is a lot however maybe I can kill 2 birds with one stone in Bkk.

I'm sure the doctors in Canada did have a differential diagnosis in mind and hence the recommendation to see a specialist. Problem is we have no idea what type of specialist they were advising you to see. If you can possibly find that out, you should, as it might save running down some blind alleys here.

Lacking that you might start with a vascular specialist to see if that is the problem. Here are some names that seem qualified, I have no direct feedback on any of them. I was not able to locate any in the Pattaya area (it is not that common a specialty). However chances are good there is one at Queen Sirikit in Sattahip if you feel strongly about being closer to home. Otherwise:

(also at Bumrungrad)

http://www.bumrungrad.com/doctors/Thamrongroj-Temudom

(also at Bkk Hosp)

Again, if you can possibly find out what type of specialist they were sending you to in Canada should do so first as it may save a wasted consultation here. If you have even the doctor's name and province, I could probably figure out the specialty.
