loserlazer Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 why manufacturers do not produce jackets for hot countries like Thailand? Yeah airwaves, g air etc but fixed with experience, it is still hot. even my full mesh - only mesh - cheap Komine is not keeping me cool on red lights. I hope one day manufacturers realize that - especially the European and North American ones - there are riders in hot tropical countries like Thailand riding their bikes in need of safety and good ventilated jackets that keep them cool! Let bombard them with emails now!!!

Let bombard them with emails now!!! I just don't think it exists. After all even today here in Chiang Mai is 102F/39c with what accuweather calls a real feel of 106f/41c When it gets like this if I am on any of the big concrete roads like highways that connect the back roads here it is so hot the heat coming up off the heat sink that concrete & asphalt is actually hurts my eyes. I'm serious if I am going slow in a section & crack open my face shield for added air the air is so hot that after a minute I have to shut the visor because the heat pains my eyes Now take a jacket that flows 1000% more air.....yes but that air is still super heated. It is like a hairdryer The only jacket that could negate that would need a built in air conditioner that ran off batteries 2
SumetCycle Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I just got a new Spidi vented jacket that I thought would keep me cool, but at 40 degrees nothing seems to help. 2
loserlazer Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 yeah, i remember a manufacturer did a jacket with some cool pads maybe installing a fan instead of a back protector? I know maina, no jacket can help for 40 degrees Celsius! Still, even if it is hot, riding above 60 kmh will provide some coolness if you have the right jacket. I am OK with heat though as my home country can be hotter that Thailand at times. it is better that riding in cold minus temperatures at the end
RubberSideDown Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I've got an EVS Cooling Vest (~$40)- it can be soaked with water (and then wrung out so you're not dripping wet) and it helps keep your body temperature down due to the evaporative effect (which can last for a couple hours depending on the ambient temp and humidity)- I don't generally wear it under leather, but I'll wear it under the textile jacket I just bought. 2

Made by Craft & did the same thing really did keep you cooler/drier. Although I never tried soaking it first It really is a good idea & now that you reminded me I may look for some here

I've only tried it once and it seems to help a little

I don't ride much on the street anymore, apart from ferrying my bike for transport to the track and I need to pension off my Oxtars. Had a lot of guys mention that they really don't cut the mustard anymore. 1

nikster Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Have a Dainese and a cheap RS Taichi too, both too hot. The Dainese is super light, but again no zip in liner, and hot when stopped, though not as bad as the Airwave. Main issue is I bought it in black. Som nam naa, I know.Dainese Airframe has a nice zip in liner & with it out thejacket flows a lot of air. Hot when stopped? All jackets & even no jacket I am hot when stopped these days Well actually we all know no jacket is hotter than a light jacket I guess just keeping the direct sun off your skin is a plus as most Thai's seem to know also. All jackets are hot? That would be an argument if it were not for jackets that aren't. My Yellowcorn jacket was not hot. I mean sure if it's 40 degrees and you're in the sun it's hot. By not hot I mean the Yellowcorn kept me cooler than riding with no jacket. Revit Airwave is hot in comparison. I might give Dainese a second look - the one I had sure flowed loads of air, but it didn't have the zip in liner and made the mistake of buying it in black.
nikster Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Let's define hot: - A jacket is hot when it's considerably hotter to ride with it on than with it off - A jacket is not hot when it's as cool as with no jacket on, or even cooler. Revit Airwave is hot. Too hot to wear in the city. Totally fine as long as you keep moving, but don't stop... Yellowcorn was not hot. I am actually in the process of getting it fixed but it's harder than I thought. I didn't mind wearing it in the city as it kept me from getting see dum, horror of horrors... 5555 kidding, but I found the jacket comfortable. It had the best inner liner of all the Jackets I tried (Dainese, Revit, RS Taichi). Actually my leather RS Taichi racing jacket isn't hot either, but it's huge & heavy & not exactly something one could wear to the city. The racing hump, the power ranger inspired color scheme... nah... fantastic jacket for touring though.

Yes agreed & that is what I meant by my last sentence about wearing no jacket can be hotter than a good one due to direct sunlight. Yes I noticed some Dainese do not have the zip in liner. The Air Frame does & I think those priced above it. Below I noticed one which I forget the name now does not have the liner

Myaimistrue Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Well, I've been doing some research on mesh jackets and will be going to the States soon, where I can get just about any of the jackets mentioned. It looks and sounds to me that the Joe Rocket Phoenix 5 flows the most air and in silver, should reflect the heat: http://www.bikebandit.com/joe-rocket-phoenix-5-0-motorcycle-jacket?b=3156830 It has many good reviews, even from guys who have gone down in it. Or, I might go for this Teknic Supervent: http://www.bikebandit.com/teknic-supervent-motorcycle-jacket?b=2760147. Perhaps there are jackets with better protection, but if they're too hot, I'm not going to wear them, so in that sense, they're useless to me! Of course, for minimalism, nothing beats this: http://www.bohnarmor.com/catalog/proddetail.php?prod=BGSC
loserlazer Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Liked that bohn armor but if i wear it, i fear i might look like a village people:lol: 2
English_M_in_Bkk Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 i use a komine jacket with full protection - back, elbow and shoulder - now and it is full mesh and there is no other fabric inside, only mesh. You can actually see through it, it is that light:) the coolest jacket i used in my life and using it for nearly 1,5 years and nothing has happened to its mesh, stitches or structure, not even a hole, but reflectors and color fade a bit. in a crash it will be ripped apart. No it won't, I have crashed wearing that exact same jacket, help up fine and the mesh only had slight scuffing on it. I now use the upgraded Komine jacket - Titanium - can get them at Paddock for around 5,000. The mesh is even heavier and overall armour protection is excellent.
loserlazer Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 My komine mesh jacket is getting old so i am thinking to get the same one from paddock for 2800 thb! They have one for my size still. The most comfortable and ventilated mesh jacket i have ever own and after 1.5 years of hard use, not even a single hole on the mesh! 1
Myaimistrue Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Huh? I just got back from Paddock and didn't see anything worth buying. The only Komine Jacket that interested me was 10k. Everything else was either a dark color (which I will not buy!), not ventilated enough, didn't have a liner or didn't have a sufficient method to hold the armor in place. I'll hold out until I go to the States and get one of the two I mentioned above, for around 4500 baht.

Two shop next to paddock.

There was one decent jacket there for 4500 baht but it was black and heavy. I know black is popular but I need every advantage in beating this heat!
BirdsandBooze Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I`ve got a Power Trip Mojave mesh jacket that I bought in Seoul for the equivalent of 1900baht in a sale. They go for around $135 in the States. Made in South Korea it has removable shoulder, elbow and back protection and I`ve found it very cool and comfortable and has good quality zips. If you can find a shop here that sells them for a reasonable price I can recommend buying one. I`m 5`10 with a 40 inch chest and the large size fits me fine. 1

Great reviews (except for zippers?), good price.....bad color! I know these companies will eventually get smart and offer light color options for mesh jackets!
mania Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Here is a good deal on Dainese G-Air 3 Tex jacketsUsually 10,300 on sale for 6,900 bahtSaw it on FB at Haichi Bangkokhttps://www.facebook.com/HachiAccessoriesShop Reviews here http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-air-3-textile-jacket I have the Air Frame which is one step up & think they make a nice jacket
bramds Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Has anyone ever heard of the brand Utika? They seem to be based in Pakistan, jackets are sold at Ninja Shop. http://www.utika.com.pk/default.asp
Cobrabiker Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I have a Revit Airwave - IMO this jacket is just too hot. Revit Airwave + Looks great + Cool when moving - Hot when stopped, or in the city, or getting off the bike, etc - High collar keeps you hot and is kinda uncomfortable - Zippers of medium quality; didn't have problems yet but I expect better. - Inner layer uncomfortable on bare skin, e.g. t-shirt - No zip in rain liner; very cold in the mornings. This is the only jacket I am both too hot and too cold in. Again - I expect better. Revit is a good brand, they make good looking gear that's - presumably - pretty safe. But they're not designed for hot weather. I'd make the designers ride around Thailand in March, I am sure they'd come up with something better. My old Yellowcorn jacket was much better than the Airwave. It was much cooler when stopped or off the bike - not because of airflow, if anything it had less airflow and a denser mesh than the Revit. But the inner liner was excellent, and the Jacket just fit better. It also had a zip-in rain liner, perfect for the cold mornings. I'd wear the Yellowcorn around town no problem, and planned to do that with the Airwave, but it's just too hot. Have a Dainese and a cheap RS Taichi too, both too hot. The Dainese is super light, but again no zip in liner, and hot when stopped, though not as bad as the Airwave. Main issue is I bought it in black. Som nam naa, I know. The RS Taichi is also black and kinda cheaply made, no wonder it only cost 4k baht. No airflow and black... what was I thinking?? The search continues. PS: I don't know if I got lucky with my Yellowcorn jacket or what, also I don't really know how they name their products. Mine was a special edition made to look like an original "76" union oil race jacket, no "yellow corn" logos on the outside whatsoever. Protected me in my 2 crashes so far in Thailand. Worked well. Just wondering whether your search is over? I truely understand how it feels like during the hot summer here, 40+ celcius, even the air blowing at you is like your hair dryer. The best and cheap way is to soak up a thick cotton t shirt with ice cold water and wear it under the jacket, and repeat it at the next gas station, better still, the t shirt does not stink and it is washable, well if this doesn't help, maybe you have very high metabolism, then I think the ice vest will. http://youtu.be/jy6S5qi29P8 http://www.amazon.com/Flexi-Freeze-Ice-Vest-Navy/dp/B001P30358/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342510922&sr=8-1&keywords=Flexi+Freeze+Ice+Vest
wantan Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Anyone here having experience with Cordura AFT (Air Flow Technology) Fabric? Rukka offers some jackets with AFT Cordura. They aren't cheap but should be of very good quality. The level of protection and the airflow should be good according to revzilla review. So anyone here having such jacket?
