At Last, A Feminist I Can Relate To.

Featured Replies

I'm referring to Inna Shevchenko and the Topless Jihad she is organizing in support of Amina Tyler, the 19 year old Tunisian woman who photographed herself topless with 'F Your morals' written on her chest in Arabic, in protest against the curtailment of women's rights by the new Tunisian regime. I look forward to the wall of silence from western feministas who are so preoccupied by glass ceilings and vestigial gender specific language but run a mile when a real issue comes along that flies in the face of the set menu attitudes some hold. So April 4th is the day to bare your chests, I await with anticipation.

4 April is International Topless Jihad Day!

We have appealed to the world for support and the world has answered! The fate of the Femen Tunisia activist Amina Tyler has shaken up and united thousands of women across the globe. Amina's act of civil disobedience has brought down upon her the lethal hatred of inhuman beasts, for whom killing a woman is more natural than recognising her right to do as she pleases with her own body.

Interesting view you have there. Are you saying that women shouldn't fight against the glass ceiling (which still exists) or lobby for the right to be addressed without abuse?

Are you saying that only extreme abuses against women are ok to fight against but that anything that is less extreme but still damaging to women should be left alone, presumably because some men don't like the concept that women don't want to be paid less or referred to in insulting langauge?

Umm, ok, good to know where YOU stand on this.

I support her point too...and was going to write more but the "I look forward to the wall of silence from western feministas who are so preoccupied by glass ceilings and vestigial gender specific language but run a mile when a real issue comes along that flies in the face of the set menu attitudes some hold." comment threw me off my game. saai.gif

Ahh ...replied same time as Boo..
Good to know im not the only one feeling that..

Throwing a thought out there...wonder if the male contingent would have responded differently to her message, had she not been considered appealing to look at? Maybe, so long as a decent pair of tits is out, regardless of the issue, no man will object? Had she been old/unattractive etc, would she have received less attention?

But regardless, if being attractive and topless meant her message got noticed more, then good. I suspect if zero nudity had been involved, and was just a womans voice in protest, she would go unheard... which is sad really.

You assume wrong. Let's just say that what seems geographically distant from one's personal situation may become of immediate concern sooner than you may imagine, especially if ignored. In the words of Edmund Burke 'For evil to flourish all it takes is for good men to do nothing'. I hope you can forgive his gender specific language and identify with the sentiments.

Emm, i just wanna see the pic of the topless, so where is it ? wai2.gif

you miss my point so I will lay it out clearer.

You seemed to be saying that you only support this feminist issue because women were planning to take off their tops. You dismissed the issues facing women in the western world, which alhough not as extreme are still just as relevant.

Is that not what your point was? If not then you should have expressed yourself better.

I see. The mode of protest was not what I was referring to, except in so far as it is directed explicitly at the religious fascists that it was. I believe in equality by gender, sexual preference, age, race, etc etc. But I'm baffled why some very relevant and pressing woman's issues seem to lay beyond a veil (no pun intended) that many in the west are reluctant to peer behind. Indeed those who do are often ostracized, for example Phyllis Chesler, who I have little doubt will be following this case with interest

But you have made a huge assumption about "western" feminists (whatever they are).

Your whole post came across as sour grapes & an attempt to invalidate the problem that women face in the work place & other issues facing women in the world today.

That some of those issues might not be life threatening is irrelvant, they exist & for you to dismiss them in this manner just proves that femisism as a general movemement, regardless of what campaign is being supported, is still very much needed.

Fail

Jeezuss, and bugger.

Every female on this forum knows that i am the most beautiful and sexy thing on this planet.

Thread closed.

Boo, have you had an eyeful of that model David Gandy?

Better than my belly dancer

But, still no topless pic i see

Not to worry. It's all the fault of Islam - didn't you know?

Not very titillating, but here you are. The news is far too important for that. Tunisia is where the so called Arab Spring started, it has turned into an Islamist nightmare for women, especially those aspiring to the freedoms promised by democracy. I believe the moderates in Egypt are resisting too, I trust that western liberals will be backing them to the hilt instead of using moral relativism as an excuse to look the other way.

crazy assed islamists with no future with the rest of the world?...well, maybe...lets just see what they say about Israel...

It's not about gender equality for him, he loathes Islam. He is probably right if he suspected that some Western feminists, like Muslims, are not happy with a woman showing off her tits, whatever the cause. Sometimes you get the most unlikely alliances.

Statistics on how much less women are paid don't take into account how many hours less they work on average, less experience, that they are more often absent from work because they care for a sick child, and so on. Paid according to the performance principle, they must fall short on average.

Woman amongst themselves are not any more respectful talking about males. Maybe you are an exception, and you never appraised the private parts of a man when chatting with other women.

Actually this is factually incorrect and studies have been done that show that male college graduates with the same qualifications and experiences (ie fresh out of college) will still make more than their female counterparts with the identical set of qualifications and experiences. Suggest you do some research before pulling out that old chestnut.

I'm not sure who you are hanging around with but I have never met a women who appraised a mans parts, ever.

It's just not what women (I know) do, we might talk about someones looks but never a dick.

actually, women graduating with an undergraduate technical degree as in engineering or computer science will probably make as much or more than their male counterparts in America and northern Europe as there is a value placed upon appearing to be 'progressive' when hiring in western places...plus the women engineers usually have higher GPAs than the men...

it's common knowledge an' I don't haveta show anyone any stinkin' research...

No really? I talk about Dicks. Oh wait, no sorry, that's dickheads.

never mind.

P.S Nice discussion about glass ceilings by the way, whilst hundreds of millions of women live as chattels to misogynistic savages.

The author, Dan Collins in Men Are From Bad, Women Are From Good
points out that modern feminist theory has labored to make women the
holders of all virtue while men are but the nasty, smelly, violent dross
remaining:

To wit:

A typical mans reaction...

The author is a man? oh dear, he wouldnt be publishing anything from his own bias would he? Nah, I never see anyone do that, certainly not any of the men on THIS forum..
