Don't belittle the list. It probably took hundreds of man hours, 10 sub committees, 25 meetings, teams of researchers, pages of babble and sign offs from every department head and his deputy before they saw fit to release the list to the public.

and Millions of baht in approval fees and kickbacks

Here are my eleven rules for Government officials ... as little chance as heir rules for Songkran have of being followed.

1- Do not get involved with corruption

2- Do not lie

3- Do not drink in Government House

4- Do not steal

5- Do not ask citizens to do what you yourself will not do

6- Do not make silly rules that no one will ever follow

7- Do not organize a mass protest when things do not go your way

8- Do not pay your way out of being found guilty for any illegal offence

9- Do not have friends stand outside of voting stations with envelopes

10 - Do not burn down Bangkok

11 - Do not flee the country when facing criminal prosecution

No 12. Give any Farang the right to defend himself if any other Farang asaults him with water, even if he prefers to use his fists.

I went to our local little Cambodian market this morning (anyone who knows where I live will know the one) in the last Thai moo ban before it, they have started chucking water already, and I saw at least 7 of those rules being flaunted.

Posted

The Thai government has failed to grasp one simple concept:

Implementation is more important than the rules themselves.

Good luck telling Sirichai & Somchai to follow the rules.

Don't (Do not) is mandatory therefore Rule Number 4 is irrelevant if Rule Number 3 is obeyed and enforced. This assumes that legally carried water is for personal consumption only?

i guess these are all doable before and after songkran

IN YOUR DREAMS! if you have nothing to do, just stand outside any day during songkran and see how many violations you see in one hour! these people talk the talk but never walk the walk, no one will enforce one rule!

What about bare breasts - have they forgotten to ban them this year?

oh nice one motor mouth, now we are going to see a revised list, biggrin.png

12. No wet T Shirts

13. No breasts.

AND most important, no stupid, ignorant foreigners!

Maybe they will also check our passports to make sure we are legal to visit here too.

Interesting that these rules have come from nameless 'officials' and 'government agencies'. No one has the balls to actually put their name behind this because that would mean answering questions and justifying all this rubbish. I'd like to know if these are actually written in law because if they're not, surely no one has any power to enforce them (apart from the drink driving one of course)

Limit alcohol and stop throwing water from pick-ups? blink.png

Is Songkran cancelled this year?

Obviously there will be ALL of the above and after the event, a lot of egg on faces too smile.png

....and who is going to enforce this....and how......

The BIB whilst getting a bucket of iced cold water poured over thier heads from the back of numerous pickups.

That's not baby powder, don't know what it's called but it is the stuff that's used traditionally.

Along the canal in Northern Lopburi. They have huge mounds of this stuff. This time of year they sell sacks and sacks full. Until they crush it up, it looks like huge chunks of chalk. coffee1.gif
