BANGKOK, Apr 8 – The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) gave assurances today that there will be sufficient electricity for 37 manufacturing parks under its supervision when they restart operations tomorrow after a long holiday.

IEAT Deputy Governor Chakrarat Lerdopas said the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has reaffirmed that the power supply to the 37 industrial estates will be adequate for their manufacturing operations.

Industrial operators in Thailand have been concerned about a possible power shortage in light of the maintenance of a natural gas platform in Myanmar since Friday.

Supplies of natural gas from the Yanada platform for electricity generation in Thailand has been suspended. The maintenance will be finished on April 14.

Mr Chakrarat said each industrial estate consumes an average 100 megawatts during normal operating hours but many of them will stop production during the Songkran holiday.

Various sectors have cooperated with the government’s call for energy saving, contributing to EGAT’s adequate energy supply, he said.

The IEAT deputy governor said foreign industrialists have not enquired about Thailand’s energy stability though they want more assurance on the country’s overall power capability.

They look forward to more energy alternatives including nuclear or coal powered plants which should boost their confidence regarding power supplies for the country, he said.

“Thailand cannot have a nuclear power plant at the moment. However, when Vietnam completes its nuclear plant project in the future, the Thai public may be more positive to the alternative,” he said. (MCOT online news)

Nuclear Power will never happen in Thailand.....they'de make too many short cuts during construction (if they ever got permission), be found out and that would be the end....similar to the Philipines

Oh God! Not nuclear power? Somchai, Somchai, I said DON'T press the red button!!!!

Somchai, make a jump wire so the computer believes the emergency pump and the battery pack is installed than everything will start OK and we make some profit on the side.

Is Somchai really a specialist for electric installation? I just ask because he just twist the wires together...

Yes of course he installed the electric in many houses, even in some with farang owner.....

No these farangs from the University don't get a work permit....Thai people can do the job the same or better.

Well they don't need to build it themself, they can be it complete from Japan, Russia, China, etc etc

Thailand is ready for nuclear power because Somchai now understands how to install 3-wire electrical wiring (includes a safety ground).

yes connect the two wires and cut of the green one as it is useless.....

I had a 100.000 Baht damage because they exchanged the ground with the Zero line on one place.....A "specialist" who had a college degree in electric.

The specialist probably had a 2-wire degree.

I don't trust ANYTHING any Somchai does. Hell, they don't even know how to lay floor tiles properly.

As Thailand's energy needs increase, and the preference is to generate their own from their own resources, the choices come down to hydro, nuclear or lignite-fired (in my order of preference). We can only hope that the normal high standard for nuclear station operators would be upheld.

BTW yes, I know enriched uranium would have to be imported.

Which leads to the question of which country would be so irresponsible.
