Can someone please post links or give information about the documents required for renewing my work permit.

I am in Bangkok.

Do i need to go to Immigration or Work Permit first?

My yearly income is 300,000 baht... How much tax will i need to pay? I don't think i am due any tax relief. (Will i get asked to show tax payments?)

How many days before the expiry date can i start the application process?

Cheers.

Are you a teacher? That will determine the documents you need.

Yes, you need your tax documents to show you are paying your taxes.

Dear Mario,

I guess he's teaching, as the post's under teaching in Thailand......

I can give you all needed advice, if you can give us more details about your circumstances e.g. school, degree, having a work permit before and other intformations. You'll need a teacher's license if not eligible, a provisional teaching permit.

Not being a native English speaker means you have to come up with a TOEIC examination. Your degree and transcripts have to be certified, a Thai culture course is needed for the second round. And a lot of more bs.

Once you're going for the second round for a provisional, you'll have to show them some certificates, anything that proofs that you've made a lot to be a better teacher.

You should have made your tax declaration by the end of March 2013 already. No visa and wp without that.

Without that, you won't get a visa or work permit. Once you've got your ok letter from Kurusapa, you can do the labor department and visa trip in one day. ( Labor might need two to three days to issue a work permit). Good luck, Chuck!

Renewal of work permit should be an easy task, in fact if your employer is on the ball you'll go with a staff member to renew your W.P. no drama, no drama queens need to be in attendance..

If you made 300000 baht, the taxes owed depends on the deductions from your pay. If there is 750 baht deducted each month from your pay fot social securitty the:

Initial gross: 300000

Standard. Allowance: -60000

Individual deduction: -30000

SSA paid: -9000

Net Income: 210000

Tax Exemption: -150000

Taxable Income: 51000

Tax at 10%: 5100 baht

If you did not pay into SS then your tax would increase to 6000 baht. You will need a receipt from the tax office before you can renew your WP or Visa. Your are already late, normally the taxes have to be paid by March 31 but were extended to April 7 this year. You are past that date and I don't don't know what the penalty will be.

Thanks for the replies.

Any replies to these questions gratefully appreciated;

How many days before the expiry date can i start the re-application process?

Do i need to go submit documents to Immigration or Work Permit first?

I already have the Karusapa letter (1 more year left) and all the other docs i used last year to get the work permit

I am told that paying your tax late incurs a 200 baht fine... Not the end of the world. :)

I'm away at the moment and just posting from my phone, so apologies if I miss anything.

For your work permit you need a wp.5 I think it's called. The form has both English and Thai for what you need.

You can download it here:

http://wp.doe.go.th/en/downloadform

Some documents you'll need to get from your school, some which they can arrange quickly (e.g.form signed by director and a letter from the school), otherswhich take a bit more time (e.g. a letter sent to the education office and the education office's letter in reply). You'll likely need your tax return/receipt aswell, this is easy and quick, just get proof of your income then visit your local amphur if you haven't done it previously.

I have previously read online that your visa should be extended before your work permit. But my local immigration office said the opposite, and for the past 2 years my local dept of labour were nice enough to extend my work permit even gojng to them first on the condition that I fax them a photocopy of my extended visa within 30 days.

For your visa, you need mostly the same information. Sorry but I can't remember specifics off the top of my head. Having the krusapa letter is the most difficult though. Everywhere you go, take a folder with originals and copies of documents you "might" need incase they ask for something unexpected (e.g. Take your degree/police check etc, even if its not on the list, as its upto the individual's discretion and they might want extra information)

Also don't forget lots of passport photos and multiple copies of your passport and work permit. And be very relaxed and polite, if they like you they might give a little more leeway if you've forgotten some largely unimportant/inconsequential documents.

Renew the WP before going to immigration, start the renewal process 2 weeks before and you should be fine. (It depends on your labour office how early you can do it, for immigration 30 days early is fine).

Just to update:

You need to go to extend the visa first, before you extend the work permit :)

Extention on visa is only extended upto the date of a valid exemption letter from the Ministry of Education.

My friend only got 3 months as his letter expires in August, but mine expires in May next year so i got 12 months.

My recent experience suggests other wise.

I disagree with all of the above points.( if you mean KSP as apposed to MoE)

In our area the work permit is granted until expiration date of the employment contract. After getting the work permit, off to Immigration. The primary document for Immigration is the emloyment contract supported by the work permit.

It has been reported several times on Thaivisa and other forums that many Immigration Offices in the country will give an extension of stay until the expiration date of the TCT's Provisional Teaching Permit in case the expiration date comes before the expiration date of the employment contract and work permit.

Not how it works in the places I know of. The WP is not connected anymore to the visa and permission to stay anyway, so you only show a relevant visa to be issued with a work permit. The permission to stay date is irrelavant for the WP to be issued.

Degree and transcript certified by whom please ?

Posted

We've never had to have the degree or transcript certified. They sometimes ask to see the originals and in the past we had to verify that the degree was authentic (with the school or through another source).

I have no idea what the difference is, but some years back a copy of the email from the national clearinghouse seemed to please them immensely.
