Ubon Hash House Harriers Run No 56 - Wednesday 8Th May‏ - Suan Loong Daeng Farmstay

Run 56 will take place at Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay, Nok and 'Gettomaster' Trond's place, on Wednesday 8th May, yes note the change to a weekday for this one hash. The run is timed to coincide with the birthday party of Viking Ghettomaster (Trond's full hash handle). If you have not been to Suan Loong Daeng farmstay before then you should know that a hash, followed by a party and a night's stay, makes for a very pleasurable mini-break. The run/walk will start at 3pm prompt, so if you want to have a relaxed start and give yourself some time to check into your accommodation then it would be a good idea to aim to get there by somewhat earlier. It should take about 90 minutes to drive from downtown Ubon, unless you are Trond-like and can do it in 60 minutes.

There are rooms available at the farmstay, for those that get their bookings in quickly. Those who miss the cut can stay at a local resort. If you need a lift from/to Ubon e-mail me and I will try to sort something out. However, you must contact Trond directly to book accommodation; if you do not have his e-mail or facebook addresses and his e-mail address is not appearing in the address list above then e-mail me and I will put you in touch. Double rooms are 400 THB at the farmstay and likely to be similar at the other place.

After the run we will have the usual circle (normal hash fees apply). Then the partying begins. There will be free food; drinks, at reasonable prices, are to be paid for. Pool - of both varieties (balls on the table and balls in the water:-)), so remember to bring your swimming costume if you want to cool off! Dancing is free. Those of you who can manage hangover breakfasts will recall that the choices are good.

Directions from Ubon: take highway 24 to Det Udom then 2171 to Nam Yuen. At Nam Yuen turn right (westwards) along highway 2248. The farmstay is 13 kilometres from that junction on the southern (left side) of the 2248.
From Kantharalak: take highway 221 south and turn left (eastwards) along 2248. The farmstay is 20 kilometres from that junction on the southern (right side) of the 2248.

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (200B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.
